Does this happen with your ILs?

DH is a law student and he works (and has very little free time) - so since we got married, I've gone home on my own to see my parents since I'm close to them and I like to see them.

I'm hestitant to ask DH to come with me because I don't want his mother to know that he saw my parents since it becomes an issue with her. We have plans to see the ILs this weekend to 'even up' the number of times we've seen them and my parents - do you feel like you have to do this? I don't even want to start this cycle. It's ridiculous.

Not anymore.

But when we first got married we did try to keep it pretty even. It was crazy, I don't miss that at all!

U sure now...this weekend she caused a ruckus because we didn't ask her to come apt. hunting w/ us. Last time I checked you were not paying my rent.

Re: Does this happen with your ILs?

No...DH's parents live in Fl...we don't see them that often. Depending on what the occassion is...sometimes DH comes with me to see my parents, sometimes he doesn't. They live over an hour away, so it's not like I can just drop by for dinner.

Re: Does this happen with your ILs?

Sorry you have to go through this. I probably see my IL's more than I see my mom & MUCH more than I see my dad.

Thankfully I don't mind seeing them at all since I adore them!!!!!!

I don't have to "even out" the time between our families. My Mom is in AZ.

YES! And, we live 2 MILES from my MIL. We see her ALL THE TIME.

I see my mother MAYBE every 3 weeks and my MIL gets SO JEALOUS when she hears about our "visits" with my mom

I will have to agree with this true but sad statement! It isn't necesarily either of them saying out right that it needs to be "even", more of a general concensus. Like, oh we haven't seen you in FOREVER (this would be more my parents by the way, not ILs)!

Re: Does this happen with your ILs?

We haven't even been married for 2 months and already we hear the comparisions - my parents understand that they're going to see us maybe 2 or 3 times a month. It's just not computing on the other side.

Re: Does this happen with your ILs?

It was only an issue for holidays (who gets us for dinner). After we had children there was some competitive grandparenting going on - just on my MIL's side. Now that they've moved to FL, she doesn't call, write, etc. She called right before my son & DH were going to see her - and wound up sobbing on the phone. I have no tolderance for this sort of thing though.

Re: Does this happen with your ILs?

It has felt like that in the past. We would mention to my ILs that we saw my family and MIL would say "Oh... that's nice" and seem really upset. Now we just keep quiet.

Re: Does this happen with your ILs?

Why does there always have to be a comment?
I mean, in our case, DH was sent away for high school when he was 16 and he hasn't lived at home since. Now there's weird 'competition.' Chat Icon I can't wait till it dies down.

Re: Does this happen with your ILs?

My Mom just moved to GA, my IL's live upstate so we see them a lot more than my Mom and they usually spend one night with us and one night with SIL. My Mom does get a bit envious but I nip that right in the bud! My Dad is laid back and does not care or get offended if we don't see him for a while. He and my husband do some business together so they talk more than we do.
