Re: a question for cat lovers..
Try the Cat Fancier's Association...it's much like the AKC and will help you to find a reputable breeder.

You can also do a search on petfinders.com.
If not, please do not purchase a purebreed from a pet store. Please look into a reputable breeder.
I found this on petfinders

Re: a question for cat lovers..
My MIL has a gorgeous Maine Coon. She is very smart, quick, and gives my MIL a lot of love and attention. She doesn't like anyone outside of her immediate fam though. The only time she gives me any attention is if I house sit! But MIL adores her.

Maine coons are beautiful, but so are Siamese. But, they are very vocal and jump up on high furniture( I have a siamese mix and he is a handful).

Re: a question for cat lovers..
my sister has a beautiful Maine coon but beware...the shedding hair is CRAZY!! My sister actually gets the cat shaved twice a year to keep down the shedding.
they are beautiful cats!!

Re: a question for cat lovers..
I have to chime in and rep my baby's breed. He's a Himalayan (which is a Persian and Siamese mix). Extremely intelligent, docile, playful, loves kids and other pets. I call him a dog inside a cat's body - but much smarter!

Re: a question for cat lovers..
I have a Maine Coon that I love to bits. He's so handsome. My guy is VERY vocal, doesn't like to be picked up alot of the time but looks for pets constantly. He is very hairy and I have never had him professionally groomed, but I brush him at least once a week. I was very fortunate and got him through (not directly from) my local shelter when he was 3.
I also have a regular domestic short-hair and he has a great personality - he's actually more fun than the Maine Coon.
I got both my cats as adults and saved them from being destroyed, so check your local shelter before buying from a breeder. Also, there is a great shop in Islip town called Cattitudes and she takes in strays and has all types of cats. Image Attachment(s):
