Questions for pediatrician
What are the important questions that helped you determine which pediatrician you picked? I have someone who is VERY close to my house, recommended by neighbors and a relative, has a well office and sick office, 24 hour message center/on call...what other questions? How do they feel about the scheduling of shots/ thimyserol (sp?)free shots? TIA

Re: Questions for pediatrician
I like that my ped has a calling hour everyday except Sunday. You can call her b/w 7:30 - 8:30 with any questions. I didn't know anyone on Staten Island so I asked a friend who lived here. I met her ped and liked her so I went with it. I really think that you need to see a person a few times to know if you like their style or not. Sorry I can't help you with any specific questions but the list you have so far seems good.

Re: Questions for pediatrician
I like the fact that my ped. office is open from 9am - 8pm mon- friday sat. 9am - 6pm and sun 9am-3pm. I can call and leave a message for the dr. and they call back asap. They are open 365 days a year. If you call after hours the dr. gets paged and calls you with in minutes and will give you their direct numbers to reach them. They are very nice and helpful and no matter how many times you call they understand. A few times I had called to ask a question and they asked if I would like to come in and got an appointment for that day if I felt it was necessary. Also my friend goes to them and her daughter was sick with high fever christmas eve she was brought into the doctors office and christmas morning the doctor called to see how she was feeling. I am so glad my friend told me about them they are so great.

Re: Questions for pediatrician
I think its also good to ask a parenting question (such as where should baby sleep in the beginning) simply to get a sense of their style and tone.

That is definitely important, I would prefer someone on the conservative side.
