Internal question???
I'm 36 weeks (37 weeks according to my last sono) and the doctor still hasn't done an internal yet. I was certain he'd do one today at my appointment, but he didn't. He also didn't seem the least bit concerned that I've been having severe cramping. Is my doctor being dismissive or is this normal?

Re: Internal question???
Some docs just dont do internals. They dont REALLy tell much. Effacing and dilating mean you are far along and thats about it. Its not really an indicator that you are going to go into labor in a day or even 2 weeks. Maybe he was trying to save you some discomfort.
As for the cramping, probably contrax but yes, I would demand answers for that!

Re: Internal question???
Thanks for your response. I think I'm more concerned by the fact that he's acting like my cramps are no big deal. If they get worse, I may just go to the hospital.

Consider yourself lucky on the lack of internal. At this stage of pregnancy, it just makes you more antsy, IMO, to know how much you might be dilated or effaced. And like Karen said, it really doesn't tell you anything useful. Labor could still be hours, days or weeks away. Don't sweat it.
Just so you don't feel so alone...I've been having some pretty intense cramping in the last 2 weeks. I'm 36 weeks right now, too. My midwife told me the cramps are VERY normal...especially for me (with a second pregnancy).
Is this your first?
The cramps just mean that our bodies are practicing for the "real deal" of labor. I wouldn't worry too much about them. Just pay attention to the frequency of them, and whether they start to last longer each time. If you notice a pattern, then you may actually be in real labor...at which point, you should call your doctor or midwife. Good luck to you!

It's nice to hear that it's normal. Yes, this is my first. My doctor just kind of avoided the issue. If he had explained that it was normal, I would've felt a lot better. Thank you so much for your response
