Food Sensitivities and/or Mild Allergies

For those who have reactions to certain food products... actually more of a "sensitivity" than an out and out ALLERGY..

What are some of your symptoms?

Did you determine this by process of elimination OR by seeing an allergist?

I think I might be having a reaction to something I'm eating, but I cannot pinpoint what.. so Im wondering what some common symptoms are before running to a doctor (which I just dont wanna do!) I am not breaking out in hives or swelling up, nor getting completely sick to my stomach (a little nauseous but nothing more sever than that) BUT i feel just so 'weird" lately and I'm surmising it has something to do with my current diet perhaps

TIA

What are some of the things you are eating? Nuts, berries, shellfish, peanutbutter?

Try eating very bland, organic foods for a week and see if you feel better. If you don't, maybe you just have a touch of something, if you do feel better, start adding the other foods back to your diet slowly and that should help figure out what isn't agreeing with you.

Process of elimination.

I get lots of skin reactions to foods and other stuff. Toothpaste, nail polish, etc. Each time I start eliminating one thing from my routine to see what the issue is.

Most recently I found out that I'm allergic to anchovies after eating a ceaser salad and breaking out in hives (on the first night of our honeymoon, no less!). It was the only thing new that I ate, so I'm just staying away from them now!!

Re: Food Sensitivities and/or Mild Allergies

Thanks for those tips, Morgan..

I am going to try exactly what you said this week... and eating my normal foods again. The reason I am thinking food product sensitivity/allergy is that I have been doing Nutrisystem (which is all pre-packaged , prepared foods .. which I've learned now contain a LOT of Soy and other additives) and while I LOVE the program and am losing weight really well on it, I am surmising that this might be why I feel so horribly otherwise.

I hate to believe it but I've noticed the change these past weeks since I started, and its the only thing I can pinpoint ... I am a migraine sufferer to begin with, and my migraines were at bay for nearly a year until these past few weeks Chat Icon

the extreme headaches/dizziness that I cannot control like I normally do is making me crazy, no diet is worth it Chat Icon

THANKS again for the advice!

Good Luck - It probably is the Nutrisystem as it's all processed foods. Have you tried Weight Watchers? I really think that the only way to really get the weight off and stay off is to eat healthy and exercise. I have also read that diets like Atkins and such are bad if you are TTC.

Re: Food Sensitivities and/or Mild Allergies

A friend of mine just developed a soy and tree nut allergy in the past few years - I think she was 36 when she was diagnosed. She was getting rashes and went to the doc, who referred her to an allergist and she was tested.
She had eaten these things her whole life and then all of a sudden she was allergic.

It could be soy - according to her, there is soybean oil in almost all processed foods. If you noticed that the Nutrasystem stuff has soy in a lot of the products, it might be worth checking into the allergy thing. Chat Icon

Re: Food Sensitivities and/or Mild Allergies

I am allergic to tomatoes (weird Italian, I can't eat tomato sauce)

and mushrooms.

Tomatoes my mom figured when I was a kid and I broke out in a rash. Mushrooms I figured when I developed a bad headache and vomited after three incidents where mushroom was in my food.
