x-post from Parenting: SIL had a miscarriage, what can I do?
We live far apart. She's in OH, but I feel like we should do something, but I'm in totally foreign territory. Is there anything we can do to make her feel better or to ease the pain of this painful process? Would flowers help or is that trivial? Sending food? Or is it best to not to do anything like that. I'm looking for suggestions or feedback, particularly from people who have been through this or had a friend or relative that has. Thanks

Call her and see if she wants to talk.
Send a card with a lovely message about how you are sorry for her loss.
For everyone around her they must realize that a loss is a loss. Her miscarriage is as much of a death as any other.
I'm not saying you would say any of the following but some will... All should refrain from comments such as, well, "you'll have others", or "I knew someone who had one and..." or "The faster you get over this...
I would do whatever you would normally do if someone lost a family member. Just try to be there for her, over the phone I guess, as much as she needs. She may want to talk about it, she may not.
for your SIL.

Well Said.
When I had my miscarriage, I rec'd both cards, flowers, and phone calls. I think a card is suffice and a phone call if she feels like talking. YOu may want to check with her DH first to see if she is up to talking.

I just wanted to send hugs to your family and your SIL. How sad. I think making sure that she knows you care is the most important thing right now.
