Went for injection class today

Whewww...that is certainly overwhelming. DH was amazing though and he does not seem intimidated at all. I took notes and am definitely not looking forward to that first shot next Wednesday. Really nervous about those 1 1/2" needles for HCG & Progesterone:Chat Icon

Those classes are such an overload of information!
After you do it a few times it will be second nature.

Don't worry about the big needles, they are intimidating, but if they are used in the right spot, you don't even feel it!!

Re: Went for injection class today

I just have to say...I was sooo scared by the 1 1/2 inch needles...and when DH gave it to me, I felt only a pinch...I had made much more of it in my mind. Don't worry...you will do great.

It is not that bad after awhile. I was the same way about the needles for the PIO.

Re: Went for injection class today

To be honest, the IM needles were no fun for me. It could be because I have pretty muscular glutes from working out. AND I had to do the IMs for a month and a half! But keep in mind that if you get too sore, call your doctor because I was prescribed progesterone suppositories to switch off with the injections. That helped tremendously.

All of the info they give you at the injection class is really overwhelming, but don't worry - you'll have lots of help along the way!
Good luck! Chat Icon

I know it's overwhelming but just remember why you're doing it Chat Icon

I only had the IM shots for the HCG, which didn't hurt at all. I think what's painful is the solution in the injections not the needle itself.

I wish you and DH all the best!!

Tons of baby dust!!!

Re: Went for injection class today

Thanks everyone. I will keep you all posted on how we're doing with the shots. They recommended icing the spot prior to injecting so we'll definitely be trying that:)

They told me it will be a total of five 1 1/2" needles - 1 HCG & 4 Progesterone. They said after that I can switch to the suppositories.

Re: Went for injection class today

Do NOT ice before a progesterone shot!!! Use heat. The shot will be harder to inject into an iced area...what happens when you freeze oil?

Use a heating pad on your butt prior to the shot, and warm the bottle of PIO IN YOUR HANDS before you draw it up. It will go in nice and smooth this way. Then, after you inject, use a warm washcloth on the area and massage with some pressure to disperse the oil.

Ack! They never told me not to ice! I always used the ice pack! I did, however, always warm up the oil in my hands first.

Pauline, my DH did my injections. You could self inject, but it wouldn't be easy!

Re: Went for injection class today

Thanks for the info ladies. Wow...they didn't mention about not icing before Progesterone. She said that icing before was ok and then heat afterwards. Yikes...not looking forward to that needle:(
