Endocrinologist? what is that for?
I had GD and so if you want to chat - feel free to FM me. I know I was very upset an confused. I showed no signs of GD so I never expected it. I had to go straight to a nutritionalist. My advice if you see one is make sure you have one you are comfy with and gives you a plan you can deal with. I know mine left me hungry all the time - I became very miserable and slightly depressed from it. When I called her to ask for more food she wasn't extremely accomodating nor pleasant. I never dieted in my life so I had no clue how and had no clue what to eat that I stuck to a few base things. Luckily my high risk ob was so nice and told me never speak to her again and my numbers were so low since I followed my diet strictly and ordered me to go out for a big dinner and a glass of wine and not to worry about spiking once and awhile!!

Re: I failed the 3hr glucose test....any advise?
I have gestational diabetes also, for a little over a month now since I found out. I didn't even have the 3 hour test. I was 186 after my 1 hr so they determined right then and there that I had GD.
I was really crushed. I felt like a failure in a way, because I really want my body to be a perfect place for my little baby to be growing and hanging out.
My doctor sent me to winthrop perinatal where I met with a nutritionist named lynne, and nancy, the midwife. The nutritionist gave me an eating plan. it includes 3 meals a day and 2 snacks a day. They want me eating 1900-2000 cals a day but I don't even think I'm doing that because I've lost 7 lbs since I went on the diet. My ob says it's fine though, because I'm overweight, and the baby is growing BIG so it's not like the baby is not getting enough.
The biggest thing about the diet is that you limit your carb intake and you can't eat for 2 hours after each meal so that you can test your blood sugar after 2 hours.
Sometimes that drives me crazy! Sometimes after dinner I want dessert!
But anyway, so far I haven't had any problem controlling my numbers with diet. They gave me the prescription for the freestyle blood sugar monitor which is easy to use. I test in the palm of my hand and it doens't really hurt. The only time i spiked to 149 was when I made homemade pizzas for dinner. I guess it was just too much carbs. The nutritionist told me to stick to about 30 carbs with breakfast and lunch, and 45-60 with dinner, 15-20 with snacks.
If you have any questions, I'm doing it all right now, going through it also, so please dont' hesitate to ask, and good luck!

When do you see the nutritionist? I had a week between failing my 1 hr and going to the nutritionist. Do you know how high your levels were?
