TMI.... I had to stay home today....
As you guys know, I am like the spokeswoman for Zofran at this point - I am back on it, but the constipation was really getting to me....
On Sat. night, I finally took correctol (the "gentle women's" laxative) - it said a dose could be 1-3, I decided to split the difference, went with 2.... That night, I woke up moaning - I had horrible, horrrible stomach cramps... and had to get up and retched my guts out. I wasn't sure if it had anything to do with the correctol.... in fact, I didnt yet put 2 and 2 together.... I went back to sleep after that. Next day- lets just say I didn't get to enjoy the effects of the correctol. I'm thinking - ok, maybe its a little too gentle.
Last night I took 3. This time I was up allll night with horrible stomach cramps, and could not sleep at all. I got up in the morning and dry heaved, and began to wonder if it was the correctol. I still wasnt feeling anything, but because I have been so tired lately, and worked alll weekend, I decided to call in to work. Felt guilty as hell for doing it, but knew I would be dysfunctional all day with no sleep and those goddam Zofran headaches....
THEN - the correctol kicked in. Oh my god.... I never truly knew the meaning of the word runs - but - oh yeah - I was running.... It happened to me twice this morning....
So now, I don;t know what I'm going to do - just endure the horrible pain of constipation and at least not puke, or take the correctol, be in pain all night, and run to the toilet all day????
Any suggestions welcome....
You ladies are going to think that the only thing I talk about is puking and pooping....

I find metamucil to be the best remedy for constipation.
It says it takes 8 hours to work and I'll be damned if every time I take it, it isn't EXACTLY 8 hours when relief finally comes.
And I never had any problems with cramping or runs.
I hope you feel better.

Re: TMI.... I had to stay home today....
Thanks - I'll maybe give that a shot next time - I'm not used to taking anything - ever - so the thought of all these pills is driving me crazy - plus, I always feel guilty taking the day off unless I have 104 fever!!!

I was told to take Senekot for constipation- it works in about 24 hours! :)
I hope you feel better!
Also, I take 2 stool softeners (colase) every night.....

I second Metamucil and it won't give you the runs-just makes everything much "easier"

I agree with the senekot. It's a natural laxative and more gentle than Correctol. I had the "pleasure" of taking both on two differnt occassions. With the Correctol I had such bad cramps before it kicked in. But with the senekot, it was no where near as crampy.
Good luck!!!!

True.
After the first time I used it, I said to DH, "I'm sorry, but the makers of Metamucil are now the loves of my life."

you totally should probably NEVER use correctol. It is a harder laxative then something like senokot. Honestly, they didnt even let me take laxatives. The quickest relief I had was from the enemas. I did it 4xs and my dr allowed it. At least with that it takes seconds vs your 24 hr correctol crampy relief. Seriously though, dont do things without your drs consent bc I am no dr but I think correctol is a no no.

Re: TMI.... I had to stay home today....
Can you cut back on your iron intake or talk to the OBGYN about iron free prenats? That's the only thing that helped
Hope you feel better soon

Re: TMI.... I had to stay home today....
Sorry. When I was pg with DD, I was taking Zofran too. I never threw up, but had ms 24/7. It felt like I was on a rocking boat that never stopped. I took the Zofran 3x a day just to function. I still have some of the pills in the top of my medicine cabinet, and when I happen to see them, I feel like gagging!!!
The constipation was the worst. I would recommend 1 or 2 fiber pills a day, a lot of water and Kashi Healty Heart cereal. These brought me some relief. Just remember even if you feel like you are never going to be able to go, you eventually will. I know it's terrible. Mine ended at 12 weeks.
Good Luck!!!!

Have you tried Colace for the constipation? It works the best for me - no stomach upset or anything.

Re: TMI.... I had to stay home today....
BENEFIBER!!!!! It is clear, no flavor, no yuckiness, and with all theat puking you are not going to get that metamucil down without it coming right back up. Try it you will be happy you did, Iwhen I was pg I was the spokesperson for benefiber, trust me. HTH!!!! Good luck.

Re: TMI.... I had to stay home today....
I took Corectol once (pre preggo) and I feel your pain. It turned my poo red! (sorry TMI) Anyway, I 've been using benefiber and ixing it with juice and other liquids and it seems to keep me regular.

my dr. said if natural things didn't work, OTC laxatives would be alright to take... I did ask... In fact, when DH 1st bought it, I wouldnt take it b/c it said of you are nursing or PG, please consult with a dr. before taking... I didn't know it would do this to me.... I wont take it anymore though....

I remember doing correctol once when I wasnt preggo and having the same EXACT crampiness you described. I could only imagine how u felt. But really maybe u can ask the dr if the enemas are just as safe bc I swear to you I was much better in seconds vs waiting hrs for fiber laxatives to work. It totally sux having const. with that zofran!
