Almost a 911 day!!! Please take a CPR course!!

Ladies, truly take a CPR class, my 3 year old daughter choked on a clementine today. Her air -way was blocked and she literally started going limp in my arms as I was working on her (heimlich, back pat, etc). It is so important to get the training, I don't even want to think what could of happened if I was not trained. I take the course every 3 years and it is amazing how it comes back to you when you need to put it to use.

My mom and I were just saying yesterday that we both want to take a CPR class just in case.

I'm so glad she's ok. How scary for you both!

THANK GOD she is okay!!

I was reading all the techniques just last weekend and thinking to myself...okay, I understand it all, but I really SHOULD practice. I want to take a course. I want my sitter and my husband to take a course! This is my biggest fear!

I take the training at work, but the Red Cross gives an excellent training. Some hospitals also give it.

I have been thinking about this a lot lately and also thinking that I would like anyone who watches Miranda to be CPR trained.

I'm glad she's OK and most of all you are trained.

I have been thinking about it for a few months now. DH is trained bc he was a social worker working with kids. I'm calling the hospital where I gave birth in the morning to see if they offer classes.

I'm so glad you little one is ok!

I know if you delivered at Huntington Hospital you can take a class there for free.

Many libraries offer first aid classes geared to parents. If your local library doesn't offer one, ask the children's librarian to consider running a class.

At my library we run a program called Parent Toddler Workshop of parents with children 18 - 36 months. We bring in resource professionals to talk to the parents about various subjects and one class we had was on the infant heimlich manuever.

OMG!!! How SCARY! Thankfully you were able to put all that training into action. You saved your daughter's life. I keep telling DH that he needs to teach me CPR. We will do it this weekend thanks to you!
Did you have to take her to the Dr. after? Was she hysterical? or you?

No doctors viist needed since she regained her color nicely and was playing within 5 min, and she was able to swallow so I know there was no damage to her airway or throat. We managed to kep pur cool, my 6 year old who was watching the whole ordeal was more hysterical than the 2 of us, she had to run out ofd the room because she saw I was having trouble and she couldn'r bear to watch any longer. I kept pounding on her back and doing the heimlich and kept turning her around hoping that she would of gotten it up, but every time I turnd her around she was still wide mouthed and turning pale. It was definitely one of the scariest days. I have had to save 2 patients at work who were choking but it was "my job", and I was at the hospital so I knew I had back-up, when it's your child and you are home ALONE it is SCARY! I was rattled all night and literally felt light headed and shakey to the point that I had to go to bed.

Ironically I was just thinking about infant CPR because we are ttc and I have babies on the brain.

I got teary reading about your other daughter- when my brother was three he choked on some grapes really badly. Thank goodness my mother was a nurse and was able to use the heimlich (with one hand, the other hand was dialing 911). I was 8 and I ran out of the room and hid under the bed. Chat Icon
