This would depend on your budget and what you like to do.

On Disney property my favorites are:

Boardwalk for location. Walking distance to Epcot & MGM with dozens of restaurants available and a great pool area with a water slide.

Wilderness Lodge for theming. It's a gorgeous hotel and is only a boat ride away from the Magic Kingdom. Plus it has a food court, casual restaurant & a fancy restaurant.

Port Orleans Riverside. It's less expensive, has great atmosphere, a hilarous lounge act and a good restaurant plus food court. It's a boat ride to Downtown Disney and walking distance to the French Quarter which has a nice lounge performer also.

Off property, I only stayed at the Wyndham Orlando Resort. You really can't go wrong with a Wyndham in terms of service & amenites.

I hope this helps and if you have any questions about any of these hotels, please feel free to fire away Chat Icon

Re: Best Disney resort?

That really depends on budget! They range from $79 a night to $250+. I'm sure the grand floridian is better than the All Stars, but I'll probably never find out.

From what I have seen though, I think any of the All Stars are very kid friendly. They have great theming, they're very clean and neat and although they lack amenities, they're definitely worth staying at. I think Pop Century is a little bit "better" in terms of, you get actual sopa instead of a soap dispenser in the shower, minor things like that

When you move up to the moderates you get more space, actual soap and shampoo, a fridge and coffeemaker in every room. The theemsing is beautiful they have more elaborate pools and you don;t have to bring room towels to the pool. "Mousekeeping" is much more accomodating. I stayed at French Quarter and I loved it. Very close to Downtown Disney, lots of activities, the coolest waterslide and really fun pool area, and very romantic magnolia gardens. I really loved it there, and I think if you can swing it it's worth the step up from the value resorts. Port Orleans Riverside has the same amenities, but differnt theming and it's a lot larger so you may have to walk farther to the bus station, but I've heard great things about it. I've hears Caribbean beach is only so-so, and I don't know much about Coronado Springs.

For the Deluxe Hotels, I don't know much about them, because they're $$. But the Polynesian seems to be very kid friendly. FH stayed there as a kid and loved it. They have a luau and lots of really great theming. It's monorail connected which means EPCOT and the MK are only minutes away. You can also boat across the lagoon. I think the Contemporary is the least kid friendly. it's very close to MK, and it ahs chef mickey's,m but it seems very austere, very..well, contemporary and while there are a lot of shops to buy fine gifts, there isn't much to catch a kid's eye.

The Grand Floridian is just beautiful! Chat Icon

I've also heard great things about AK Lodge. You can even get a roo that voerlooks the savannah so you cna see the animals getting ed, and you're of course very close to AK and to Downtown Disney and the Waterparks.

I don't know too much about the other resorts but everyone seems to be in love with Wilderness Lodge. And the Boardwalk.Beach Club/Yacht Club area is simply beautiful!

Thanks for everyone's help, my Dad booked us rooms at The Animal Kingdom Resort. It was ridiculously expensive, but I hear it will be unreal! We are so excited already!

Re: Best Disney resort?

We always stayed at the Coronado Springs. They have a nice pool and cool slide.
My parents just came back and stayed in the French Quarter in Port Orleans and LOVED it.

We stayed there twice - once in 2002 and once on our honeymoon. We loved it both times. I have a ton of photos if you are interested.
