Does the brand of vodka matter when trying to avoid a hangover?

I usually buy Smirnoff vanilla vodka and recently tried Absolute vanilla and felt so much better the next day.Chat Icon

I believe the better the quality, the less chance of hangover ... i think that goes for any alcohol product though ... the better the ingredients and processes ...

Yeah I don't mean to knock your choice but Smirnoff is pretty much on the low end. I would try Ketel One or Grey Goose and see if you find a difference. I recently saw a new one advertised called Level...but I think it's really expensive.

I know people swear that the better rated brands don't give you a hangover. I don't like absolute Vanilla as much as I do Stoli Vanilla.

Re: Does the brand of vodka matter when trying to avoid a hangover?

Yes.
The more a liquor (any liquor) is filtered or distilled, the less sugar and impurities it will have. Also, a blended vodka is more likely to have negative hangover or headache affects as teh various grains can cause sugars to form in the body. IMO, the best vodka to drink to avoid a hangover is Vox, as it is single grain & distilled 5 times. Grey Goose and Ketel One are close seconds. Anything that would be considered Rack or Well vodka is not only a blend, but it is fermented in the bottle with extra sugar & is almost sure to give you a headache. Same thing with most of the flavoured vodkas.

ETA:

Also mixing heavy sodas or juices will add sugar

Re: Does the brand of vodka matter when trying to avoid a hangover?

actually i don't believe it is about the $$$$ that makes the Vodka

Terrible ones:
smirnoff, Gordon, Absolute

Good ones:
Belevedere
Grey Goose
Ketel One
Vox

Ketel One isn't expensive at all...but it is a much better vodka..
Belevedere and GG seem to be the pricier ones and are sooo smooth...

A lot of people say SKYY is great...me, i think it is so so

I agree. Although, I must say that even though Ketel One is more expensive, and while it is very good, I LOVE Grey Goose. I especially love making my own martinis with Grey Goose Chat Icon

Or at lease I used to like doing this.Chat Icon

Re: Does the brand of vodka matter when trying to avoid a hangover?

oh god yeah dont drink Smirnoff.

and dont even THINK about having "well".

that stuff is gross.

i am abig vodka drinker. i drink Ketel..... but i like Stoli too.... although Ketel is MUCH better.

for me i DISLIKE:
-well
-smirnoff
-absolute
-skyy
-level...
etc etc

i LIKE:
-ketel
-belvedere
-grey goose
-stoli

usually well is $5.
Absolute, Smirnoff, Stoli is $6.
Ketel is $7.
Grey Goose, Belvedere is $8.
