What would you do ? Family & Money related...
I loan my mom $450.00 for her to pay some of her rent, she lives in FL. She said she would pay me back in a week, well it has been a month, and I know she is working very hard and just doesn't have it, HOWEVER, I feel lied to. I asked her about it and she just doesn't have it. Should I just get over it and forget it or ask her again about it. I feel bad b/c I know she is my mother who paid for EVERYTHING while raising me and through college, just times are hard right now for me too, plus I hid this from DH and I feel like SH*%R about that too.
P.S. She has done this before, and I got the $$ back after a long wait !

If you know she doesn't have it, there's not much more you can do but wait so I wouldn't ask again.

Well, if she doesnt have it, then she doesnt have it... and buy you keep asking her for it wont make it appear... it will just cause more tension and you will get yourself more upset. I would let it go for a little while...when she starts to get on her feet, ask her for it again. As for not telling DH... maybe you can mention it to him, and just let him know that you needed to help her out. It may make you feel a bit better having it off your chest.

Thanks! I really think you guys are right, I just feel like she KNEW she wasn't mailing it the "next week" like she said, and don't borrow $$ from me and lie about returning it - I think that is the part that really made me mad.

I would just forget about the $$, if she sends it then that's good too. Next time she asks you can just bring up the fact that she didn't give u the $$ back from this time....

I would just let it go for now. There's nothing you can do to make her get the money. However if she asks to borrow money again, ask her to be completely honest with you about when you'll get it back.

My dad asked for money and I made DH Western Union it.
If my mommy and daddy did not do the ummm "wild thang" then I would not be here. I told DH don't expect to get the money back, consider it a mitzvah (good deed) and move on.

I would let it go. You know she is struggling. In general, I don't "lend" money to people unless I can afford to never receive it back. I just hate when money comes between family and friends.

I am always on the other side of the coin(I would be your DH in this situation).
You can't stress the money, its probably not coming back. Your DH will not understand right away, but then he will realize not much can be done about it.
