Your FAVORITE New Orleans attraction or restaurant..
Just booked Memorial Day weekend with another couple. I took DH last year for his first time and we decided we would make it our Mem. Day ritual --- despite the hurricane, we are going this year. We want to support the city and I think just spending our $$ there is a huge help to get their tourism up again.
That said.....what are your favorite things to do? I've been twice, DH once, and the other couple never so I know all the obvious stuff...looking for the off-beat I guess...

Mother's is suppossed to be a great place for po'boys and breakfast. I went for breakfast-it was okay-but I'm not a fan of breakfast. Mother's has a huge following. The lines are usually wrapped around the corner. I have always wanted to try brennan's for brunch. I heard it is a must see/do. Definitely try some beignets at cafe du monde with chickory coffee-yum!!! You have probably already tried cafe du monde-sorry.

To be honest, I thought Brennan's was a complete waste of money.... years ago we paid $28 for eggs - literally some scrambled eggs, potatoes, and toast.
Much better for brunch is Court of Two Sisters (hope its still there). It was a buffet with more food than you could imagine and also a jazz quartet playing. IT was in an old style building... really cool.
Also, the original Emeril's restaurant is down there and that was really good if you are a fan of his. Got to get the chocolate souffle!!

Re: Your FAVORITE New Orleans attraction or restaurant..
We had breakfast at Mothers and liked it a lot because it is a local hangout. It is a cafeteria style line and definitely nothing fancy, but the food was good and it was fun to be called honey by our waitress. If you are looking for a nice restaurant, this is not the place for you. I liked the House of Blues too- they had some great music the night we went.
I really liked some of the antique stores and shops in the Garden District. We rode the streetcar over there from our hotel. I also liked the Swamp tour - it was winter when we went, so we didn't really see many animals, but I liked riding through the Bayou and hearing the captain's stories about the locals and the areas around the Bayou.

I loved Nola, one of Emeril's other places, I think it's a little hipper than his other places, or at least the Delmonico. The food was fabulous.
I also loved Cafe Du Monde, but think it didn't survive the storm.
I also loved the Aquarium.

Re: Your FAVORITE New Orleans attraction or restaurant..
New Orleans is one of my favorite places. When we first arrive we head straight to Desire at the Royal Sonesta Hotel for po-boys. Then we hit Pat O'brien's -- hard! LOL You have to sit in the piano room though.
Other favorite restaurants include Mr. B's for a dinner and Commander's Palace for brunch. We usually stop at Touche at the Omni Hotel on St. Louis -- even though it's part of the the hotel a lot of locals hang out there as well and we have met some fabulous people there.
Have a FANTASTIC Time!!!!

Re: Your FAVORITE New Orleans attraction or restaurant..
Commander's Palace hasn't opened after Katrina. Cafe du Monde was barely affected and they are open. We have done most of the places here, Mr. B's, Nola, Delmonico's, Pat O'Briens of course, lol! I will check out some of the music places and I think we will have to try Mother's.....Oh and Court of Two Sisters, we just had drinks but it was so pretty. Good to know they have a good brunch!
Thanks all!

Acme Oyster bar!!! We were in New Orleans for a week and ate in that place 3 times. If you like seafood, that's the place to be! Very casual, but awsome food! Best to go on the off time though, because the line is always super long for lunch and dinner.
We went to NO 2 years ago and we still talk about it with admiration! It was one of the best times ever! Have a great trip!
