Anyone work for Nassau BOCES or have experience with group interviews? UPDATED on bottom

I have a group interview tomorrow for a school psychologist position at the Children's Readiness Center in N. Bellmore. I'm not quite sure what to expect at a group interview. Any advice?

I interviewed for them awhile ago in a group setting. You sign in, wear a name tag and they ask questions. They may ask one person specifically or they may throw out questions and you can be the first or second or whatever to answer. It gives you the chance to shine especially if you are in a group with people who are not cut out for a position. Good luck!

I don't know about Nassua boces, but I did have a group interview once before.

It was 7 people. They had me sit front center of a room, then they fired off questions. It was a little awkward having to sit upfront like that, and then when I was answering the questions I had no idea who to look at.. should I look at the person who asked me or look at everyone?

Re: Anyone work for Nassau BOCES or have experience with group interviews?

Is it a group interview with other candidates??

I went on a group interview for a school psych position too...they asked some scenario questions (what would you do if a kid locked himself in a closet everyday and didn't want to come to school - sticks out in my mind). There were three of us at the same time. The key is to be assertive when answering without seeming like you are taking over the interview. Its hard being the last person to answer the same question because there isn't much original left to say.

Good luck tomorrow!!

I think I'm going to vomit. I am anxious during interviews to begin with. I don't know how I am going to do well in this kind of situation. Chat Icon

I'm sure you know all the right answers...you'll do fine! Generally the group interview questions are more general - they try to weed out the people who don't know anything.

Thanks. I am worried about my anxiety getting the best of me and forgetting everything that I know!

So I'm anxious about my anxiety!

Re: Anyone work for Nassau BOCES or have experience with group interviews? UPDATED on bottom

Thanks for all the advice, ladies. It actually wasn't so bad. There were 6 of us, mostly pretty young and new in the field. The principal and AP were both really nice and put us at ease about the whole process right away. It was interesting to hear how others answered questions and gave some ideas for the future. I don't know if I'm exactly the best match for the job, b/c it is a very behavioral program, and I do not have that orientation, but I did get a call today to come do a classroom visit next tuesday so that I can be observed interacting with the children!

This is a leave replacement position, and even though it may not be the ideal program for me, it would be great for me to get my foot in the door within the BOCES system, because they prefer to hire from within, and it gives me the opportunity to move to other programs in the future.
