Congestion in the morning?

Once or twice a week Jake wakes up in the morning and he sounds a little congested in his nose... like he needs to blow it. I use the aspirator on him (which he used to think was funny but now hates) and it only helps a little.

It goes away on it's own after a couple of hours and then he sounds fine.

Do you think I need to use a humidifier or dehumidifier in his room? I don't really know what they are for. Or is this normal?

Re: Congestion in the morning?

Jared had gotten a little cold 2 weeks ago and sounded VERY congested only in the morning. So I put the humidifier in the room, used the nasal aspirator and put saline drops in his nose. It seemed to work...Chat Icon

If your house is very dry from the heat, you need a humidifier...it will add moisture to the room.

Thanks Stefanie...
How do I know if it's really a cold? He doesn't seem to be acting any different in any other way so I'm not sure if I should treat it as if it was a cold...

I wake up sniffly in the morning sometimes too and so does DH...so does that mean that the house could be dry? We haven't had the heat on the past few days though.

Re: Congestion in the morning?

Well Jared was coughing and his nose was runny...plus his temperature was a bit high, so that's how I knew he had a cold.

Maybe it's just the change in weather...I would get a humidifer anyway. It seemed to work and I know this is not the first time our babies will be sick or congested...so it's good to have.
