Re: Amityville School District
not very good. I would look at www.greatschools.net and newsday.
FH was a student teacher in the Jr. High and HS when he got his masters - he said it was a rough school to be in - lots of fights - kids broke into the Jr. High over the weekend and did massive damage.

Re: Amityville School District
I have heard negative comments on the district as well. Many residents living in the district try and send their kids to private schools instead.

Re: Amityville School District
My mother lives in Amityville & she did her student teaching there in the early 80s.
It is a rough district.
However, there are parts of Amityville (I believe Amity Harbor) that go to Copiague schools.
My Step Sister and all her friends went there and they are all very successful adults now- I think both aren't the best- but if I had to pick, I'd pick Copiague over Amityville.
It's a shame b/c there are a lot of VERY beautiful homes in Amityville- my mother's block is just quaint- well kept, nice homes- very nice neighbors- everyone is very friendly- and the little town itself is really cute too-
Hopefully as more people continue to move there, the schools will get better.
It's annoying b/c my mother lives in the village and her taxes are pretty high (about 10k) and even w/ that, the schools are bad.

Re: Amityville School District
One of my best friends grew up in Amityville - They all went to private school. Now that she is married and has kids in the same district - same thing - private school.

exactly! South Amityville is actually a BEAUTIFUL village...the houses have so much charm and character and that is hard to find sometimes with towns. It's an adorable area but what kills me is the taxes and THEN have to send your kids to private schools. That's like paying double for grade school before you even think about college
