Anyone ever have any bad experiences at a dog run?

We like to take Zoey to the dog run as often as possible, but my husband only wants to go during hours where it is unlikely other dogs will be there. He is afraid something will happen to her or as he says "she might have beef with another dog." I'm assuming people are smart enough to only bring their dog if it gets along well with other dogs. But maybe dog runs can be dangerous... Anyone have a bad experience?

I have two Italian Greyhounds, and I do not DARE take them to dog runs. They have very skinny legs, and are extremely fragile. When we took them once, big dogs were pushing them, trying to pick fights, and quite honestly, I do not trust other dogs around my babies. If anything were to ever happen to them, it would be my fault.

Don't trust owners too much, some are real dummies or just inconsiderate. I wouldn't risk it.

A friend of mine brought her dog to one and her dog was attacked by another dog who's owner wasn't paying attention. I'm sure that many people have had good experiences, but be careful.

Okay. Seems hubby was actually right on this one. I'll stick to weekday morning when we have it to ourselves. Thanks everyone.

My mom was bit badly on the leg by a "visiting" dog at the one in their neighborhood in Florida. She didnt get stiches but she should have. Instead she used maxi pads on her legs for days.

We used to take Cooper to one and he was quite cordial to most of the other dogs he met, but once in a while a dog would pick a fight with him. We decided it was better to invite people over with their dogs or take him on "play dates" to our friends' houses.

Re: Anyone ever have any bad experiences at a dog run?

I take my dog to the local dog park and I've never had a bad experience. Of course not all dogs will get along, like people, but my dog can fend for herself pretty well without it turning into a brawl. She gives the other dogs fair warning that she won't take their sh!t and that's usually the end of it. Only once did I come across a dog who really didn't belong there. He would snap at every/any dog who came near it. The owners didn't speak English and wouldn't leave, so we all had to leash our dogs and stay on one side of the park.

Re: Anyone ever have any bad experiences at a dog run?

I take Misty all the time...she is a good sized (60 lbs.) dog though and seems to handle the other dogs fine. Most of the dogs get along (I think dogs behave much better off leash than on around other dogs), but there was one time when a guy came into a run with a very aggressive dog. Everyone just leashed up their dogs and left.
But, I don't think it's a great idea for a small dog. When they start running around and/or roughhousing it could probably be too much for a toy type dog.
