the dumbest question ever...af related
if you are on the mini-pill - can you get your period? Or is it like the regular pill and you don't get it at all?

I always got my period on the regular pill. I don't know about the mini pill though.

ok I wrote this post so quickly yesterday I didn't realize it didn't make sense.
On the pill -you take sugar pills for a week - that is when you get your period...right?
Since the mini pill has no sugar pills...does that mean I will never get my period as long as I am on it - or is it possible to get it anyway...?

Re: the dumbest question ever...af related
the mini pill is different hormones, not sure how it works, I was on it while I was BFing my daughter, I still got my period on it.. I found this....
What is the Mini-Pill?
Unlike the combination pill, the progestin-only pill (POP) or mini-pill contains only small amounts of one hormone. The mini-pill keeps the ovaries working but interferes with the natural cycle so that pregnancy cannot occur.
How does it work?
It works by reducing and thickening the cervical mucus to prevent the sperm from reaching the egg. It also changes the jelly-like mucus at the entrance of the cervix, making it difficult for sperm to penetrate.
How effective is it?
The reliability of the progestin-only pill is high, but slightly less than that of the combined pill. The mini-pill offers an alternative for women who cannot or do not want to use estrogen-containing oral contraceptives for medical reasons or for those who are breastfeeding. It reduces menstrual pain and blood flow. For those who wish to become pregnant, the method is easily reversible. Plus it is 90-99% effective. Because the mini-pill does not have estrogen, it tends to have milder side effects than combined OCs. The most recent mini-pill also prevents ovulation making it a very reliable option.
Don't forget...
The mini-pill must be taken at precisely the same time everyday to be effective. Absolutely no missed pills. Otherwise, the contraceptive reliability may no longer be adequate.
