Oh geez - here comes the newbie asking all those same questions again!
Hey ladies!
OK - 4 days later, and I'm still not sure whats normal and whats not - from my search, I figured exhaustion and dizziness is normal for 1st trimester...
How about this....
Each day, I am more and more queasy allll day - not so much in AM- it builds throughout the day - I don't throw up though - yesterday, as the day progressed, I ate less and less. Last night I could only eat soup for dinner.
today, all I ate was saltines. A sandwich I loved the other day tasted like crap to me today... I am eating a grapefruit right now - this morning I had a smoothie with berries, a banana, and rice milk...
the thought of any food right now makes me sick - I just tried to eat that sandwich I liked and I shuddered with revulsion....
Am i ok with eating nothing but saltines and some fruit in my 1st trimester???
It's not like I'm losing weight - in fact, everything is pressing into my bloated waist - and I'm like, 5 minutes pregnant....

I was the same way, I couldnt keep any foods down, and was worried. My dr. said that it was ok, and just to make sure you were drinking PLENTY of liquids and staying hydrated Hang in there, it will go away

Re: Oh geez - here comes the newbie asking all those same questions again!
As annoying as it is.. everything you are describing is 100% normal as far as food aversions go in the first trimester. Sometimes morning sickness doesn't have to be full out vomiting (sorry TMI) .. it can just entail being nauseaous/dizzy/quesy all day long and/or just not wanting to eat whatsoever. For me I started out the day OK but by 6pm I was completely sick
Whatever you can tolerate - EAT. Even if its only crackers and fruit, its better than nothing. The baby doesnt' require much this early on, it will take whatever it needs from you. As long as you are taking a prenatal viatmin, he/she will get what they need..
ANd most of all just keep HYDRATED!!

Re: Oh geez - here comes the newbie asking all those same questions again!
I am definitely hydrating like crazy - I love water and drink tons of it even in the wonter, however, I am not taking any vitamins right now!!!!
I am seeing my doctor on Aug 18 before I go on my HM - plus, I'm a vegan, so I want to make sure the baby is getting everything it needs - is that bad if I'm not taking vitamins until about 8 weeks into the pregnancy?
also - that belly poof is normal this early? I see women who are 4 months pregnant and they are flat as a board!

Re: Oh geez - here comes the newbie asking all those same questions again!
You can buy an over the counter prenatal vitamin anywhere (CVS, Duane Read, etc..) You do not need a prescription (though your doctor might put you on one when you have your first visit..)
The most important thing I would start taking is folic acid, 800mcg.. I would not wait for your docs appointment. You can buy that in any drugstore as well.
PS: if you start taking them, be careful - the vitamins can sometimes make you more nauseous - it happened to me. So either take it with food and if it still bothers you, you can always take a flinstone chewable vitamin with a folic acid supplement ..

Yep, it's bloating. I fit into my pre-preggo jeans better at 19 weeks than at 8 weeks.

Eat whatever you can tolerate. For me, it was saltines, dry cheerios, peanut butter on toast, yogurt (in small amounts) and popsicles. My doctor said that the acidity in yogurt, string cheese, peanut butter and other foods sometimes helps and what I tried did help.
Also, give in to your cravings. I gave into fried chicken & mashed potatoes but I could not stand any other type of cooked meat. Something is better than nothing!
And stay hydrated! I couldn't drink water but flavored water, water with lemon and gatorade were fine.
Best of luck!

my stepmom was shocked when she heard I was eating grapefruits - she thought the acid would really get to me - but I told her its the only thing I can stomach right now!!!

When I was Preggo, citrus foods helped alot. I read somewhere that the citrus foods, lemons, limes, oranges, grapefruits, etc....help to neutralize that acid your stomach is producing for the pregnancy hormones. So eat all the citrus foods you want because they may actually be helping you. hope this helps!!!

Diane, Did you have an specific warning signs that you were going to have twins. I am just curious because twins run in my family. My mom is a twin and so is my grandmother. I have my first sono in 2 weeks so I will find out then, but I do not have a lot of patience with this stuff!!
Thanks

Re: Oh geez - here comes the newbie asking all those same questions again!
I was just telling DH that my appetite is not the same. I dont really feel nauseous, but I dont realy have an appetite for big meals. The thought of eating a meal make me nauseous. I just want to pick throughout the day. DH jokes around and says are baby is going to be anorexic b/c I am not eating enough. But I just dont have the same appetite. and usuallly I am a big eater b/c I used to LOVE food!!!

well, my dad is a twin...but we did IVF, so I knew the odds of having twins were high. My beta was high, so I had a feeling. But at my first 5 week sono, they couldnt tell. At my 6th week sono, they told me when they saw 2 sacs

I am living on lemonade right now. It's the only thing that helps with my nausea. Eating bread also helps, I'm a big fan of toast with PB.
