Another coxsackie victim...

And we didn't even go to any GTGs Chat Icon

I've been home with him since yesterday afternoon, we saw the ped already who confirmed it...and he's just plain miserable...poor thing. I feel soooo bad for him. He's all mopey and whiney and having trouble sleeping. I just hope it goes away soon Chat Icon

Anyway, my question is once they get it, is it possible to get it again? I'm sure he picked it up from one of the kids at the sitter's ( Chat Icon ) and I want to know - can it continue to be passed back and forth among them?

I hate coxsackie. Chat Icon This is the sickest he's ever been.

Re: Another coxsackie victim...

I would imagine that it could go back and forth. And the part about it that really suxs is that they are most contagous before they have symptoms...so you wouldn't really know if someone was coming down with it yet they'd be very contagous.

I am so sorry he's got it. It really stinks -- I can totally relate. It's so hard to see your baby so miserable, and coxsackie really wipes the heck out of them.

I'm here if you need me, since I just went through it a few weeks ago!

Re: Another coxsackie victim...

The only thing that sux, is that three years ago, when my son got it, the Dr. explained that there's several "versions" of coxsackie.. One is a "foot in mouth" and the other is full blown coxsackie. Most babies experience the "foot in mouth" version, where they caught it from being exposed to another baby or because they touched the cart at teh store that another baby sogged up and later touched their mouths, or their feet touched an infected surface and later when baby was eating their toes was when they got it...

My DH was one of the unfortunate few who got the real coxsackie.. his gums swelled over his teeth, and he couldn't eat anything other than fluids. I hate the fact that many LI dr's write off a VERY serious coxsackie as the not so serious, but irritating "foot in mouth" version.

Sorry about the novel, but hope you found the info interesting. Alex got it once, and never again. Not sure if its related or just because I started bringing anti bacterial wipes everywhere with us. *shrugs* Hope your little one feels better soon!

They can definitely get it again - or at least another form of it. We're on #4 this summer for Maddie (including the time when she was 2 weeks old)Chat Icon

The most common symptoms are fever (usually high; Jake spiked to 104 on Monday), then sores inside the mouth, on the hands and feet.
