what kind of food for family birthday party did you serve?
Just looking for some ideas for DD's 2nd bday. Last year we did new orleans style food, it didn't go over so great. I'm tired of typical italian catered and was looking for something new.

I would love suggestions too....I just told DH that I am sick of always doing italian for parties. I loooove Italian food, but want something different.

Re: what kind of food for family birthday party did you serve?
We kept it simple, ordered pizza, made ziti, salad & meatballs. Since you are tired of Italian, what about a BBQ or Mexican?? I don't know what time of year your DDs bday is, but its always a hit to have hamburgers, hotdogs, BBQ Chicken and maybe a London broil with salads and what not. We also love doing Mexican---make your own tacos, burritos, rice & beans, guac & Chicken quesadillas

Re: what kind of food for family birthday party did you serve?
You might be sick of Italian food but it is a sure fire crowd pleaser. I usually make a big baked ziti, with salad, some sides and of course bread.
You could do a large hero with a bunch of cold salads.
You could do all appetizers and just have tons of different kinds.
You could do a chinese buffet.
Not sure if you are looking for fancy or casual.

I typically do Italian but have also done sandwiches, wraps, salads, etc. Friends of ours just did a Chinese buffet for their son's first Birthday Party. It was great.

Re: what kind of food for family birthday party did you serve?
So far we've done:
* Pizza, ziti, etc. * Sent everyone menus to Moe's and ordered what they wanted and had it delivered (less than 20 people at the party) * 6 foot heros, salads, etc * BBQ (DS's party last year it POURED and my brother went out and cooked everything and we all ate inside)

We did beef tenderloin (cut up for filets) on the grill, with baked potatoes, a grilled corn salad, and shrimp skewers. We had it in the backyard with about 16 people. It was delicious.

Re: what kind of food for family birthday party did you serve?
I've had italian food catered or homemade.
But I've also done pizza with sides like salads and chicken fingers
Then cupcakes and other fun stuff for dessert..it's fun for a kiddie party.
For my sisters graduation party we had a big "fiesta" style dinner with enchilladas.. make your own tacos.. chips and dips.. it was fun!

Re: what kind of food for family birthday party did you serve?
For DS's 1st birthday I did southern BBQ...pulled pork, ribs, corn muffins, beans (just like famous Dave's or those type restaurants). It was a big hit!
This year for his 2nd birthday we are doing a small family party so I am going to do hero's and salads.

Re: what kind of food for family birthday party did you serve?
I have done all kinds. I did the traditional style...some chips, dips, veggies, and whatnot as appetizers and then served buffet style. That included grilled vegetables, a chicken dish, a pasta, a meat and salad.
Another party, for a christening, I did brunch. That was great and everyone loved it. I served same type of appetizers along with fruit and some danish. I served for the main course...bagels, croissants, 2 types of quiche, leafy salad, chicken salad, tuna salad and honey spiral ham. I loved this menu.
For DS 1st birthday, I'm starting late in the afternoon and just serving appetizers and cake. Appetizers will include but are not limited to..
Raspberry Brie Cups Pigs in a Blanket Cheesy Beef Rye eats Hot Spinach & Artichoke dip with chips Creamy brushetta dip with baked bread slices Quiche cups veggie platter Chips and dips Asian short ribs Antipasto platter Lava Meatballs
I'm also going to serve beer, wine and sangria as I did with all parties.

Re: what kind of food for family birthday party did you serve?
We usually do a BBQ for Noah since he's a July Bday.
One year for Robbie we did Mexican and it was fantastic! We had fillings for tacos or burritos (ground turkey, ground beef, pulled pork and onion/mushroom with wild rice)with all the fixings (cilantro, chopped onion, cheese, cheese sauce, refried beans, jalepenos, rice, sour cream, tomatoes, lettuce, etc..) . We also had chicken or steak fajitas, enchiladas, empanadas, chili, taco salad, yellow rice with and without beans, fried chorizo and chili-lime shrimp. It was a huge hit, there was plenty of food and variety. For drinks you can serve virgin pina coladas or strawberry coladas for the minis and the real deal (plus margaritas) for the adults! You can keep the theme going with a tres leche cake too!
