What kind of gift do you get for a bday party child you don't know?

We are attending a bday party for a 2yo girl.

DH and I have never met the parents. I don't know the child either. 14m DS plays with her at the playground almost everyday. The nanny gave my mom an invitation to her bday party.

I got her a Nick Jr sticker book and a Hello Kitty coloring book with crayons (~$20 total cost). I can't help but think this gift is insufficient.

Can you recommend gifts for a 2yo girl?

I am going to sound awful, I know you spent a lot on that gift, but I agree, it does not seem sufficient. If possible I would return either one and get something else. What about the FP lawnmower in pink? I have seen them for as low as $12 but normally in the $17-20 range.

I agree. I've given gifts lately that I feel like cost the same, but look like much more. I'd get the Busy Ball popper in pink, the pink lawnmower, or something like that.

I sincerely appreciate the honest feedback.

I actually spent my entire lunch hour walking around toys r us. I personally love books but I brought them home and the gift seemed so dinky.

I will take your advice and exchange the gift.

Pink lawnmower sounds good. Is that the one with bubbles?

I kept picking stuff up that I thought she might have.

I'm in the minority here, but for a 2 year old that you don't know, what you bought is just fine. We recently went to a party for a girl in our playgroup and gave her a jumprope and a set of sidewalk chalk and she was over the moon about it.

The princess tea set has really high reviews.

Ironically the sticker book I got costs more than the tea set. I will go exchange the gift tomorrow.

Keep in mind that kids have no idea how much things cost Chat Icon

I think anything that comes with a gift receipt is fine Chat Icon Then you don't have to worry about if she likes it or has it already.

Don't stress yourself out - the kids really have no clue anyway!

I exchanged the gift and picked up the disney princess tea set. The 2yo girl loved it. The mom emailed me later to tell me it was her favorite present.

Thanks for the recommendation!

Plus I ended up getting $5 back because the books cost more.
