What kind of home?
I was having a dicussion with a friend yesterday about the inside of people's homes. My home is very people friendly. I think I've cultivated a very comfortable ... sit down and relax ... sort of environment. There isn't a room in my house that is "off limits" to my own family or friends. We have a lot of ottomons to put your feet up and a lot of cozy places to just hang out and relax. The basement is a big playroom with toys from floor to ceiling. My family pretty much eats and hangs out wherever they want. When we have a party, we invite everyone ... kids and adults ... and everyone goes off and plays or hangs out wherever. My home is neat and tidy, but I'm not a fanatic about it. My friend told me yesterday that most of her friends "limit" their family and friends to specific "entertaining areas" of the house. I'm just curious what you do?

Re: What kind of home?
free access to all rooms but people tend to gravitate toward the dining room and living room where the action is.

Re: What kind of home?
I hope that people that have limited access
a. don't trust the people b. have extreme valuable in their rooms that are irreplaceable c. pure white furniture that needs to be maintained for special guests d. the rooms are a mess and they are embarrsed
if they just dont allow "just because" they have problems that need to be discussed with a shrink
if you are invited into my HOME you are invited into my home not the rooms i choose

Re: What kind of home?
Well, I guess free access but I wouldn't want people hanging out in the bedrooms, KWIM? So we do close the bedroom doors when we have company but other than that people hang wherever.

Re: What kind of home?
I'm sort of free access, but I don't want people hanging around in the bedrooms or the office, mainly b/c we keep some very personal things there. I'll show people those rooms, but our master bedroom is sacred to us.
I don't like kids in the gym either b/c I'm afraid they'll get hurt.

Re: What kind of home?
basically free access for us... but people tend to stay in the living room and kitchen areas. i'm the same as you-- i like my house to be comfortable. i'm not super into decorating or having a "showcase" house. as long as the furniture and stuff isn't ripping or falling apart, and the house itself is clean, its ok with me and i think peopel pick up on that when they come over- they're just laid back and relaxed.

Re: What kind of home?
Free access to all rooms except the Master BR. I feel that is a "Personal" room. Too much personal stuff in there. Other than that, come in, make yourself at home.

Re: What kind of home?
Everyone is welcome to all rooms of the house except my bedroom (master bedroom).
I just feel like that is my personal space and don't need anyone walking and poking around.

Re: What kind of home?
Free access to all rooms. Everyone usually hangs out in the living room or kitchen and we use the master bedroom for coats, since we don't have a big coat closet.

Re: What kind of home?
Our home layout is pretty obvious to where people stay when we're entertaining. Kitchen, Living Room, Dining Room, and Guest Bathroom....everything else is bedroom entrances and they are always shut.

Re: What kind of home?
Since we have multiple levels in our house, the house is for free roam. Most people stay on the first two levels as the 3rd is all bedrooms.

Re: What kind of home?
well, we're in an apartment, so we have fewer options Generally, we're in the dining part of the kitchen.... BUT, we are getting a dining set delivered soon, so we'll soon be migrating over to that space
we occassionally sit and talk in our livingroom, but the bedroom is off-limits...ESPECIALLY to our niece (she wants 'in' becuase that's where uncle's computer sits)... Lord only knows what she'd dig up in there if given half a chance

Sometimes people will hang out in my daughter's rooms, but I don't like when they go into my guest room/office. And I don't want ANYONE in my Master BR, but luckily that is the third story of the house and no one ever goes up there.

Re: What kind of home?
Pretty much free access, though I wouldn't want someone hanging out in our MB. I would however show our guests our bedroom if we did work in there or if they wanted to put a little one down for a nap or at night to go to sleep.

Re: What kind of home?
Anywhere! I certainly don't expect to have a party in my Bedroom though. If I need to worry about my guests I seriously need to reconsider who I invite to my home.

Re: What kind of home?
Our entertaining areas are on the first floor of the house, Kitchen, LR, DR, Guest BR, Deck... it is all open so everyone has access to each room...
Upstairs are the bedrooms and bathroom- no reason to really go up there-
