Re: What kind of hot water system do you have?
We have a small water system connected to our heating system (boiler). At some point, we will get a separate hot water heater, but for now, we have enough hot water for the two of us.

Re: What kind of hot water system do you have?
We have a separate 50 gallon hot water tank that is hooked to our burner. What we have is known as indirect where the burner MUST be on to get hot water...With what we have, we have plenty of HOT water & can run 2 showers at the same time with no problem

We have on demand hot water, heated directly in the boiler (we have hot water radiators for heat)
it is really awesome I could be in the shower all day and never run out of hot water

separate 75 gallon hot water heater. House heat and hot water are separate, so we aren't running the boiler during the summer.

Re: What kind of hot water system do you have?
We just recently moved in so right now we don't have a seperate hot water heater but when we change the boiler we will get a tankless one. I was originally worried about it but so far it has been fine. A plumber friend told us that the way to get the most out of limited hot water is right before you take a showers to lower the heat since if the heat comes on while you are showering the heat will take first dibs on the hot water. I hope that makes sense!

On demand means that the water is heated when you need it by turning on your hot water to use, like for the shower, dishwaster, etc. Typical hot water heaters are tanks, in various sizes, like 40-gal, 50-gal, etc., that have pilot lights and use energy to constantly heat that large amount of water, all the time, regardless of when its going to be used. Having the water heated only when its going to be used is a huge savings.
