What kind of success rate does the first try have?
DH & I want to have a baby in 2006 and are going to start trying in Feb. or March. I am just curious how many of you got pregnant on the first try? DH thinks our chances are good and I think it might take a few months.

Re: What kind of success rate does the first try have?
it depends....each month your chances are around 25% of conceiving successfully.
Our fist PG we got it on the first try and miscarried. This PG we got it on the 2nd month trying. I guess the first month our timing was off.

We got pg our first month of really trying after our m/c. One night of unprotected sex conceived that baby that we sadly lost

Re: What kind of success rate does the first try have?
This might sound like a really stupid, immature question but I am noticing that so many people m/c on their first try. What causes that and is there anything to do to decrease those chances?

Re: What kind of success rate does the first try have?
When I asked "why" when it happened to me, my doctor said, that one in five pregnancies end in m/c. That is a big number. As I am speaking about it more publicly now, my friend had one, my hair dresser had one, my other friend had one, etc...it isn't just that it happens on your first pregnancy, its just that the chances are actually a lot higher than most people think. It is mostly for genetic make up reasons, as hard as it is to take in, and as heartbreaking as it is, the truth is that you can do your very best to take care of yourself, but that baby would not have survived or lived a good life in the real world. So...there is no real reason "why". In some cases, there are reasons, that can be learned of after the fact and fixed, but most of the time, there is no reason and it doesn't seem very fair, but we just have to hope for the best. Lots of luck.
ETA: We got pregnant our second month of really trying - charting.

The chances of M/C are enormous an completely normal...my sister in law had EXACTLY what I had-a blighted ovum (a sac but no fetus developed) .
Miscarriage is natures' way of letting go of something taht is not right, whether it be a genetic abnormality or not a viable pregnancy. The body knows when something is wrong. There is no way to decrease the chances nor is there anything one does to cause a miscarriage (aside from alcohol or drugs or falling).
When I m/c, someone from the boards told me their theory: we try for SO long NOT to get PG and then when we do, our bodies don't know what to do with it.
That got me through my worst days and I still believe it.

Re: What kind of success rate does the first try have?
Thank you so much for all the posts on this subject. I am so excited to start trying to conceive and such a high m/c rate scares me so much. I give all of you who had to go through such a difficult thing so much credit. Thank you for shedding some light on this for me. I am in such the early stages of starting a family sometimes I feel that my thoughts or questions must sound so dumb.

You might have sooner success if you use OPK's to try to time your BD'ing better....I wish I had started using them sooner

Re: What kind of success rate does the first try have?
reading Taking Control of Your Fertility and charting helped me to get pregnant (I have NO medical issues either) quickly. I highly suggest it.

I totally agree. You'd be surprise what you don't know about your body and cycle when you read this book. It pretty much explains the signs of ovulation and how your cycle works. I got preggo the first real try after reading this book and we are going for #2 in a few days.

Re: What kind of success rate does the first try have?
I got pregnant on my first try, and so did my sister and so did my mom. Maybe its genetic? Neither my mom or sister miscarried adn I am in week 21. I know a ton of people who got prgnant on the 1st try, but for ever 3-4 couples who did, i know one couple who had trouble- so you never know.
Good luck!!
