what kind of watch would you want
I'd like to buy a good high quality watch, anywhere from $1,000 to about $4,000. Of course less is fine if it's a watch that won't be scratched in a week and a style that I love. What would you get? I really love the Michele Deco watches but the exact face I would want is not even made!!! I bookmarked some Burberry watches online but I didn't like them in person. I have no idea what else to look at. Where can I see a nice selection?

I'd go into Torneau and try a bunch on to see what you like on your wrist. I perfer a larger face, but that's me-
I'm not a huge watch person, I have a Michelle with the large round diamond face and bracelet band - I've been wearing it exclusively for 6 years.  
Before that I wore a Movado (not crazy about Movado at all - it was a gift)

I'm really unsure. Some shapes and styles clique with me and some don't. I'd say I want a classic but I don't think that anything is completely timeless anyway. I think of all the leather Coach bags I collected because they were supposed to be classics and even though I got my money's worth I would never carry them now. With the Michele watches I really liked the rectangular face and the 2 tone rose gold & white stainless steel. Rose gold would be totally new to me, though. I wasn't crazy about the diamonds around the outside & that's why I think I can keep any purchase within this price range & still get great quality. I think I prefer a face shape that's not round. I'm actually wondering if a Michele Deco will feel very heavy.

Years back Oprah gave one away as part of her favorite things.
They really are excellent watches and so well made.
Years later I still see pics of Oprah wearing them all the time.

I saw a number of them that were more than this, though. Now it seems my search history knows what I'm looking for but my initial searches showed me watches that were $900,000. Fun to look at but.....

I have a Cartier Tank and Rolex (big face with brown chunky leather band). Both classic and go with anything.
Cartier service also amazing...

Thanks all. I'm sort of amazed at how many watches don't fit into this budget but there are definitely enough that I can stay right within range. Now it is just a matter of seeing more of them in person.

Look for something that is swiss made
A lot of the brands mentioned above, Movado, Michele, Philip Stein Are not swiss made, but swiss movement or swiss quartz movement.
Do your research and get something swiss made at that price, most of the watches mentioned are made in asia
