What little things do you like in a home?
Like, small little upgrades that make it just a little better than othe rhomes? Especially in the electrical world... We need to renovate the whole house, and plan to sell it in a few years- so any little electrical upgrades we could do now will benefit us int he future. DH is an electrician, so we can save a lot of money on these things.
So far- highhats, dimmer switches, extra GFCI outlets, ceiling fans, and hardwired smoke detectors. Any other thoughts?

Oooh- a motion sensor is good! There's not much of a walkway though lol. Maybe some nice deck lighting.

I love the switches we have in our house that came with upgrades - it's hard to explain, but they look like this.
Outside lights by garage door. Garage door light inside the garage separated from garage door opener.
Switch for garage in AND out of the house.

Crown molding and nice base molding. Nice light fixtures in bathrooms. Call me crazy but i hate those low profile toilets and we have a few in our house!
Nice landscaping is always a plus and I also like outdoor lighting.....

They would have battery back-ups right?

Re: What little things do you like in a home?
I like any kind of classy wall adornments. Chair rails, sconces, built in shelving, mosaics on the kitchen backsplash...
Crown molding is another great suggestion.
Edging around defined areas outside like walkways, driveway, flowerbeds. That helps with water drainage too, depending on how it's done.
Shutters on the outside windows. Flowerboxes maybe.
A great front door (love the bold colored doors with pretty glass etching in them), great outside lights for the front entrance, and a nice mailbox with landscaping around it....
That's all I can think of right now.

Re: What little things do you like in a home?
I LOVE greenhouse windows! Our kitchen window looks out on the deck- so i don't think that would work... I plan on window boxes.

Re: What little things do you like in a home?
Besies what everyone else said definitly at least 2 or 3 outdoor outlets in the front and then 1 or 2 in the back. It makes it so much more convient come time for christmas lights for us. Also I would put motion sensor lights on all 4 sides of the house. I know it seems excesive but lights is big deternt for burglers.

Re: What little things do you like in a home?
i was just in a house that had motion sensor bathroom lights which was actually pretty cool. she had it installed because she was worried that her kids wouldn't shut the lights off. she said she bought the switches at home depot. i'm thinking i might have to do it too.

We don't have it yet, but friends of ours have a remote control for their highhats in the living room. Which comes in very handy when you getting cozy on the couch

The kitchen is handy too. Especially with kids. My brother did this and it works great.

Re: What little things do you like in a home?
smart house technology is really cool. you can have your DH wire it all in & add the components to make it work later. You can have home security, remote everything from heat to lights. This feature is a must have in the hamptons now. whole house speaker systems are nice too, music indoors & out. Outside lighting is a must have. whole house or attic fan is a great feature.

This comes with the new dimmer switches. I think they're about $25 each at HD or Lowes

Re: What little things do you like in a home?
We had to updo the electric in our new home. With the help of may favorite electrician we put speakers in every room of the house with volume control in each room. We put small lights under the cabinets in the kitchen and inside our china cabinet. Lights outside and speakers in the backyard. An alarm system to keep us safe and put the pool pump on a timer. We also installed hi hats in certain rooms and moved some chandeliers.
