What local law would you like to see added or removed?
Nothing at a national level, but at a state/county/town level, what law would you like to see added or removed from the books?
One thing that I personally would like to see removed is the prohibition of recreational trailers on parkways. I understand wanting to keep buses and large trucks off of them, but a parkway starts and/or ends at a park... but you can't tow your camper or supply trailer on the parkway.

I'd like stricter laws on car seats, booster seat use, etc. Not just "recommendations" but enforcable, ticketable laws. Like rear facing until at least 2, and appropriate boosters until a certain height/weight/age as law

I'd like to see recreational marijuana become legal here.
The amount of money from taxes on it would be extraordinary. It could be regulated like alcohol - the different types and potencies sold in shops so you know exactly what you're getting. Less arrests, more human hours spent on keeping us safe from more dangerous things/people out there. Less clog of the prisons and judicial system.
I've always been pro-pot. So long as you consume responsibly - like we trust people to do with alcohol - there is no shame in it. It is not a gateway drug and unlike alcohol, there has never been a case on record of any person dying from an overdose of pot.
It also helped me with the extreme nausea that chemo gave me, though I had it in the form of edibles because anything green grossed me out, even smoking it. LOL. I gagged at the thought. So my friends hid it in cookies and brownies for me like some moms do with veggies for their kids.

I would like to be able to have chickens in my yard.
I also find the amount of regulations we have as homeowners to be exhausting.

Which household regulations do you find prohibitive? I only ask because I honestly don't feel constrained at all as a homeowner. Perhaps its my town, but I honestly don't notice anything at all.

The permit process in most towns is exhausting. I have a septic system for my house that is designed for 28 people because of the way the town counts rooms, and potentially 4 people per room.... I needed a variance to continue the roofline of my house because they measure the height from the street, not the house itself, and there's a slope in my yard... I needed another variance to keep my 20+ year old driveway as-is because they said it was too big. I know too many friends that have dealt with the town and permits, and the stories are all frustrating. It's no wonder people don't bother getting permits.

That makes sense. I've never had any of that work done and it does sounds like a nightmare.

You need permits for basically everything. Fence, adding a bathroom, almost all renovations. It's absurd to me.

It's all a way for the town to make money, that's why. Just another way to rape the howeowner on LI. Like our taxes aren't enough

Re: What local law would you like to see added or removed?
Come to think of it- I think gambling should be allowed in NY. Like not just the video stuff but table games too. Maybe it would ease the tax burden on homeowners a bit if they could get in some real gambling revenue.
I don't see why gambling is illegal. And I don't even gamble a little. But I think it could be a great revenue producer

Red light/speed cameras. I think they are just a money grab and don't do much for safety.
I oppose gambling and would be adamantly opposed to any casinos opening up near me. I have seen gambling addiction up close and the only winners for these casinos are the casinos themselves - the real losers are the addicts:

See I feel there is a need for permits. It helps to ensure that work is being done to code. Also it helps to avoid problems where say a neighbor builds a monstrosity next to you and it interferes with your light etc.
But I work in the construction field so I see the process and the good in it.

That's the reasoning behind most laws. However, there's a limit to how oppressive some laws can be.
For my house in particular, it took an entire calendar year from when I submitted my initial paperwork for the permit, until I was allowed to start construction. I submitted the forms, then after a while, I got denied for a couple of things. They said my driveway was too big. I gave the town some money for a variance, and they said "OK, no problem" They said my house was too tall, so I gave the town some money for a variance and they said "OK, no problem" They said my house was too close to my back fence, so I gave the town some money for a variance and they said "OK, no problem"
After the first round of variances, they found other issues, so I had to waste more time getting things through the town for another round of variances that they didn't find the first time...
There's reasonable rules and laws, and then there's just bureaucracy.

I would love a NY law that requires people to remove snow from the roof and windows of their cars before driving. It's a huge pet peeve of mine and I know other that in other states you can get a ticket for driving with snow on the car.
I think so many people think it's no big deal, but it can be really dangerous for the car behind that gets a giant chunk of ice flying at it - and the driver of the car with the snow just goes merrily along, never even aware that they could have really hurt someone

I would love some kind of a cellphone and walking ban, especially on subway stairs and escalators. I'm honestly surprised more distracted people are not killed on the NYC streets.

I thought this was already a law? I know someone who got a ticket for it. The ice actually slid down onto his windshield when he was stopping at a stop sign. It blocked his view so he had to get out and remove it from the windshield (not realizing there was a cop behind him).

It is not a law in NY, but I believe it is in NJ. Maybe the ticket given to the person you know was technically for something else - like a catchall "reckless driving" ticket?

This for sure!
The amount of revenue that it would bring to NY and each county would bring us out of debt. It could also help to lower our property and school taxes.
It would create more jobs in agriculture and small business.

I only support legalizing marijuana for medicinal purposes. Other than that I think it is a slippery slope.
