Re: What no one will tell you about pregnancy/birth
awww dont be nervous...just so you guys hear a good story...I had a GREAT labor and delivery with my DS. It was quick, painless (love the epidural LOL) and literally overall a good experience. The only reason my DD's labor was a little more rough was b/c I had worse morning sickness with her, and I was sick while laboring. Everything else was great. Both pregnancies I pushed and delivered in 15 minutes or less and the epidural had never wore off so I didnt feel a thing So for every bad story you hear, their are good ones too

that I would shake/shiver throughout labor and even sometimes for hours after.
That's EXACTLY why I chose not to get an epi. I had a procedure a few months before I got pregnant with DD and I was trembling the entire time and it freaked me out. I'd rather feel everything and be done once I give birth than deal with that craziness ever.
But that's just me - I can't deal not being in control of myself. Not everyone reacts that way.
To all the ladies who are hyperventilating over this thread, please remember that ALL of these things do not happen to ALL pregnant women. These are the individual things that happened to some of us. Some people have AMAZING deliveries and are up and about just a couple of hours later. Some not so much.
I didn't even list mine, but I strongly recommend doing your kegel excersizes every day.

Re: What no one will tell you about pregnancy/birth
I've heard a lot of these before, so it doesnt scare me THAT much.
One thing I've learned about being pregnant is that you lose your shame sometimes. This is embarrasing, but I peed on myself while throwing up yesterday I just took a shower and had to jump right back in, LOL.
Thank GOD I was home at the time and not out.

Re: What no one will tell you about pregnancy/birth
I will share this in hopes that it might help someone should they happen to be in the same boat. I had no idea that the epi wouldn't work for everyone. I waited until I was well into labor (6 cms) before I asked for the epi and once they shot it in, nothing happened. I was in alot of pain and even though I was not the vocal type the nurse who was awesome was worried about why I still felt so much pain, they asked the anesthesia guy to give me more which he did and all I noticed was that I couldn't feel my freakin' feet! A bit later and still no relief they had the anesthesia guy REDO the epi and still nothing. This time I notice I am somewhat numb on my legs! After dilating to 10 centimeters and pushing like a lunatic for 5 hours, they had to redo my Epi for a C section because it obviously was not working and I could feel everything. The head of the department comes down, opens up my gown and starts counting my vertebrae and says "you have scoliosis!" Apparently the original guy kept putting the epi too low so she redid it and voila I felt amazing. I ended up with the Csection, which honestly wasn't too bad, but just be mindful to make sure you tell them to check the freaking placement of the epi if you do not feel relief. The whole time I just thought that maybe I was a freak and the epi wasn't working on me- not that it was a mistake on the part of the anesthesiologist.
Also because I know there are alot of first time moms reading this thread and freaking out, I want to explain why I pushed so long. Apparently DD was sunny side up and we couldn't turn her AND she had her head slightly turned towards her shoulder so she was not descending down the birth canal. I think its pretty rare for both of these things to occur at the same time, so don't assume you will have a similar experience!

That when the doc tells you to push again after you deliver the baby, it is to deliver the placenta
And for me this was worse than delivering the baby b/c by this time the epi had warn off more and the dr was literally way up there massaging my uterus! Ouch!!!
OMG I literally just got light headed.
I think I'll stop reading now.

Ladies, seriously, don't be scared. Millions of women did it before us, without epi's and c-sections etc. My mom gave birth to 5 children without an ounce of medicine. Her junk was just fine afterwards

I have spoken to so many people who have said their cha-cha did go back to normal. I have a feeling mine will bounce back eventually. Especially after only having one! Now Michelle Duggar on the other hand....

I'm happy to hear about all the things that happen during labor/delivery. It makes me feel more prepared. I like going into things like this thinking the worst and maybe something better will happen. so thanks!

Re: What no one will tell you about pregnancy/birth
I didn't know the epidural could make you really itchy - I thought I was having a terrible allergic reaction, but it's normal and after a few minutes, it went away.
You should all know, the worst part truly is the fear and anticipation of it all. My labor was nowhere near as I had imagined and that says a lot since I had back labor and tore pretty badly. I've recovered just fine, and frankly, I would've done it all over again if I had to and I felt this way even immediately after I gave birth and still do now, not quite 5 weeks later.

OMG, and I have 5 nephews, 4 nieces, and a bunch of baby cousins. Ya think ONE of my sisters would've mentioned this to me. Actually, they probably left that part out because I can't even use public bathrooms sometimes. But I'm thinking at that point during labor, you probably don't even care. Oh geesh! The wonderful stuff to look forward to.

They may have not experienced it, or didn't know. Alot of the moms on here have said that they clean it up so fast. But again it doesn't happen to everyone. I didn't poop while pushing, and my husband was right there so I know it didn't happen lol.

Re: What no one will tell you about pregnancy/birth
For me the worst part was the hemmroids. But I had them throughout my pregnancy, so I knew what to expect.
Other random thoughts to put the 1st time moms at ease:
~ for me, delivering the placenta was like pushing out a bowl of jello. It was one push and done!!
~ I did not poop on the table. I'm pretty sure I didn't - as both my mom & DH were there, and no one mentioned it.
~ My induction lasted exactly 12 hours, and I slept through most of it! Got my epi at 3cm, and then pitocin was started, so I never felt the brunt of the contractions.
~ Going #2 was NOT that bad at all! The nurses encourage you to go while you admitted, so if there are issues, they are there. I highly recommend this! At Good Sam they bring you a fruit basket each morning and encourage you to eat as much fruit as you can. It helped tremendously! I highly recommend that you ask visitors to bring fresh fruit - apples & pears, etc.
~ Not including my mom & DH, there were at least 6 other people in the room when I gave birth - both my OB's, 2 nurses, OB resident and 1 (maybe 2) interns. Modesty flies right out the window when you are in the thick of it, trust me!!
As for all the "scary" stuff - none of it matters when they lay your new baby on your chest for the first time. I promise!!!!

Re: What no one will tell you about pregnancy/birth
this thread is absolutely nothing to be scared of. it actually really reminds me of the book by jenny mccarthy belly laughs... i read that book at like 8 weeks preggo and almost died but i have to say about 99% of the stuff she mention happend and i was glad i read it because i knew what was happeneing.. was totally NORMAL! so just read this thread and bank it so if and when it happens you know its normal and nothing to be scared of!
as for my response... 1. iw ish i would have been more educated about preterm labor!
2. the things that could possibly go wrong during a c-section and what to expect if they do. (fully intend to ask to be knocked out 2nd time around)
3. that even if you have a c-section you can stillllllllllllll POOP and be completely embarrased (if you want more details ill be happy to elaborate )
4. that bleeding post partum can last 8 weeks and then you can get your 1st period RIGHT AFTER and have that last a full 4 weeks making that postpartum bleeding a grand total of 12 weeks STRAIGHT!
and honesly with all my horror stories i cannot wait to do it all over again!

this has happened to me throughout most of this pregnancy, i think its one of the worst parts of being pregnant for me, and it happened to me once at work can't speak of actual birth as it hasn't happened yet but i think this thread and some of our reactions is the reason people don't tell you everything, some of it is very scary and if it happens while you are in the moment you don't think about how awful it is you just deal with it, but when you anticipate and worry over it in advance it makes you really scared, honestly i think i'd rather not know the scary stuff, i tend not to read these threads

Just wanted to say that I gave birth twice without an epidural - first time I shook so bad the entire time I was in active labor and for a long time after delivery - second time only shook for about 15-20 min after delivery and that was it. But, wanted to point out that this still happens even without an epidural so don't freak out if it happens to you! My OB said it was totally normal!

Me too. But the way I see it and what my MIL keeps telling me and my SIL (her daughter who is due next month), people do it EVERY SINGLE DAY.

no roids no drugs no distorted junk no trembling pushed through 3 contractions and had a sweet baby boy on my stomach.
I was calm and aware through it all and I wouldn't change it for anything.
Don't get nervous ... I was SO EXCITED when my water broke - it was like Christmas in July!!!
