What OTC meds do you give your 2+
for allergies or cough/cold?
We're battling major post nasal drip that is making her cough at night. She also rubs her eyes.
I'm not sure if it's bad enough to medicate though

I give DD Zyrtec per her ped and allergist. It lastes 24 hours and DD is 9 months. I have also given her Benydrl so I think one of the two would work. Call your ped for the dosage amount but I think she would get 1 teaspoon of both.

For the regular cold/congestion my ped told me not to give ds anything because it prolongs it. He said it needs to run it's course, just raise your childs head at night. For example my ds has been congested for the past couple of days so at night I take one of my throw pillow (there thick) and put it under his own pillow therefore it helps him sleep better.

Nothing. I put rolled up towels under the mattress and run the humidifier.

Same here. We don't ever give her cold/allergy meds. We just elevate the mattress, give her some motrin for her discomfort and run the humidifier. If her nose is really runny, to prevent it from caking over night, I dab some vaseline under her nose.

I given no meds for a cold or cough.
I do give though give Benadryl for stuffiness/post nasal drip but i dont' use it often.
For a cough/sore throat after 1 year old i give tsp of honey. It tastes great and i read something recently that says honey keeps sore throat/coughs away for longer than meds-up to 3-4 hours. i take it myself.

for colds I haven't given anything but I was giving her the Triaminic Nighttime for when she had a cough... ped said 1 tsp was ok...
She doesn't sleep on a pillow and is all over her crib so I couldn't really raise it, it wouldn't help... and the humidifier does nothing!
