What should I do? Can't tell if baby is sick
My son (2 months old) has been SUPER sleepy yesterday and today - and not eating very much today at all
he is not a cranky baby but was cranky yesterday and moreso today
no fever no runny nose no cough
DH and I both have head colds; mine worse than his
what do you think? he also has a rash on his chest but im almost 100% sure its prickly heat; he has had it before
TIA

Re: What should I do? Can't tell if baby is sick
Its such a hard call- my feeling is to always follow your gut, only you know your baby and I usually end up calling the ped for piece of mind...
If it were mein this case, being as he has no fever, I'd call in the morning but it would also depend on if he's having a fair share of wet diapers ( to eliminate the dehydration concern)
Hopefully he's just going through a growth spurt, that can definately affect their sleep patterns Good Luck

Re: What should I do? Can't tell if baby is sick
How have the diapers been?
ETA:, nevermind I saw your other post. As long as there are no signs of dehydration (fewer wet diapers, soft spot caved in, dry lips/mouth, less or no tears) I'd see how he is tomorrow.
We had a few days like this with DD in the first few months but nothing was ever wrong. However we didn't have any colds or illnesses in her first year. We just had a nasty cold go through our family and it started with a horrible sore throat so just stay tuned to him.

Re: What should I do? Can't tell if baby is sick
My DD is doing this now. Shes fighting off the bottle but wants it an hour later. She sleeps through the night one night and wakes the next. I think its just them figuring out their groove. I wouldnt worry too much if there are no signs of sickness.

How have the diapers been?
plenty of pee and poop
he does not sleep through the night yet but usually sleeps for 3-4 hours at a time; now he is sleeping for 1, eating 1 oz - usually has 4-6 oz at a time looks pale to me fussy, crying a little he usually only cries when he's hungry

I'd call the Dr in the morning, sooner if a fever starts.

Re: What should I do? Can't tell if baby is sick
Could you try a little tylenol? It doesn't hurt and if there is anything brewing it could help a bit

Quite honestly, it sounds like he's having a growth spurt. Definitely call the ped. if you're nervous, but I would say that sounds like a classic growth spurt. Some spurts they'll sleep more and eat less, some they'll sleep the same but eat more and some they'll sleep more and eat more.

Laura, because Alex is so young, I would call in the morning just to be sure.

Re: What should I do? Can't tell if baby is sick
thanks everyone, i really appreciate it only reason i thought sore throat is because DH and I have it so i thought maybe the tylenol would help with that
he just took 3 oz- but still only had about 19oz for the whole day - he usually has about 30

I totally agree. When my DD had a growth spurt she ATE like a piggy and slept alot. My DS is different - cranky, sleeping but refuses to eat.
Go with your gut though. Call your ped have him checked for peace of mind
ETA my DS never took much more than 20 oz ever and is growing and gaining weight just fine...so I wouldn't worry too much.

Re: What should I do? Can't tell if baby is sick
I was thinking growth spurt too. If he gets sick, you'll know it, his nose will run or he'll cough, or have a fever, no mistaking it. It's possible he's getting sick but isn't showing signs yet, but this does sound a lot like a growth spurt.
DS used to sleep for crazy amounts of time when he went through those.

My DS started teething around 11 weeks (no actual teeth popped through til 5 months tho) so it could be that

You really never know, my DS got teeth at 3.5 months and had all 4 fronts by 4 months ...This could be the beginning of it....I think my DD has already started teething and she is 7 weeks !

Re: What should I do? Can't tell if baby is sick
DD went through this two weeks ago...I thought it was a cold Dr, says it wasn't a cold but a growth spurt, let it ride out, same exact thing happened, and now ever since then she's been giving me much longer stretches of sleep at night, so it definitely could have been a growth spurt...if no fever, and good diapers, then I think he's going through the same thing!!!
