What should I do? (sorry a little long)

DS's 2nd birthday party will be on May 31st. Since the theme is playhouse disney we were thinking of getting a character to come. The character we would want is Mickey because his favorite show is the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

Last year's theme was winne and we had winnie come which was for 15 minutes and then for 45 minutes they did things like the limbo, parachute, hokey pokey...etc etc. Now I don't want to do that same entertainment again this year. I would like to do arts and crafts (just sand art) this time and the character. I called up the same company we used last year and they said that a character alone for 1/2 an hour would be $185.00. If we did the Sand Art alone it would cost $250.00 so basically if we did the sand art + the character it would be around $400.00. Which is too much. Then I did mention that we used them last year and that I have recommended them to friends of mine that ended up using them and he said that he'll do the Sandart+character for $295.00 Which is the same price we paid last year. He also said he'll do balloons as well.

What do you ladies think? Should we do both for that price? Or not have any entertainment at all. It is costly do every year but honestly I don't think that we'll be doing this after this year...He's 2 so I figured we can still do it.

I say do it, there only young once.. and This year your son is bigger and will be able to enjoy more. If all the kids enjoyed last year and you felt it was worth the money, then go for it!

I def wouldn't do the sand art part. You can do all that yourself. They have kits for it. And it is a lot cheaper.

I just called a costume rental place and they want $100 for an entire weekend. I am just going to dress up and do things with them.

Yeah but a lot of the kids that will be at the party will be older. There will be a whole mixture of ages like 3,4,5,6,7,9 and then some 1 and 1 1/2 year olds...

The older kids will love it! Especially the kids I'm inviting they love doing arts and crafts...

I would have Mickey come, but I would never do sand art as a party craft with 2 year olds.

Maybe you can have them make their own Mickey ear hat. Just use foam circles and a headband. Then they can decorate the ears with self-stick foam stickers.

If you want to do the sand art for the older kids, you can buy all the supplies from oriental trading and it would'nt even come near to that price of $250. I think the most you would spend, honestly between 50-75

take a look

I wouldn't pay that much for sand art. You can get all the supplies at Michaels/AC Moore for probably less than half that price. Especially if you buy a little at a time and use coupons and watch for sales.

have a table set up and buy your own sand art, give as favors...I would never be able to justify spending that. A pony or something I can see...but sand?

happy planning!

Hmmm then would it be worth it to just have Mickey come for 1/2 for $185.00? If I am going to spend money on buying the kits for Sand Art well then I might as well pay the $295.00 and have them do it...I don't know...

that's still $110 for sandart which is insanely expensive, IMO.
