What size for Thanksgiving and Christmas outfit?

What size for Thanksgiving and Christmas outfit?
DS is currently 18 months old.
He is now wearing 12-18 mo. clothes with the tiniest smidge of room for growth.
Do I get him his holiday outfits in 12-18 or 18-24?
I really hate the look when they first start a new size and they are swimming in their clothes (especially for holiday pictures), so I am hestitant to go for the 18-24, but would hate to buy something in 12-18 and have it barely fit.
as for wearing it again, I always say he will wear it again, but the truth is, he never does!
So whadya think? 12-18 or 18-24?

why not get 18 mos for Thanksgiving and 18 mos for Christmas.
