What SUV get's the best gas mileage?
The lease is up on my Explorer in August and Ive started to research new cars...with all these kids I really need a 7 passenger but I can make do with a 5 seater if I have too...
Can anyone recommend a mid priced SUV? Or does anyone have a really good site for comparison shopping?

The Ford Flex is coming out in August. I think it is a 7 seater and the gas mileage is supposed to be pretty good.
I have been looking at the Dodge Nitro and it allegedly gets great mileage.

If you want a larger SUV (7 seats) with good fule economy:
Toyotal Highlander Hybrid - 2008 has a third row
Mercury Mariner Hybrid
Honda Pilot
Five seater SUVs:
Lexus RX400h - hybrid
Saturn Vue Hybrid
Honda CR-V
Ford Escape Hybrid
ETA: Cars.com is a good tool. Under research you can compare the cars fairly easily.

I get excellent gas mileage with my Nitro!! However, it was just rated very poorly in safety as per Consumer Reports.

Some of the Chevy's now have the engine that cuts from 8 cyl to 4cyl on highways. That can make a big difference if you drive highways

I have the Chevy Tahoe that does this and although it does make it difference its still a gas guzzler!

I believe the Ford Escape Hybrid is the best on truck gas as it was awarded truck of the year last year..
But then again, there really isn't any good gags mileage. You may want to consider a crossover vechicle like subarus that over more space then cars and still give you great gas...

Ford Escape Hybrid is a great truck. The highlander hybrid is also good, but keep in mind if you drive highway a lot, you will not get the full benefit of the hybrid engine. Also look at the Patriot and the Liberty. The Rav 4 also has good milage and a third row option since the redesign. The Honda Pilot is also a good choice with a third row option.

it might be a little small with your kids, but i LOVE my toyota RAV4.
i have the 4 cylinder, and its got plenty of pick-up,and its great on gas- i get about 23 in-town, and even better on the highway.
it does have a 3rd row option, but not sure how comfortable it would be for anyone to sit back there... definitely worth looking at, though!
