What the heck is all this Kabbalah Stuff.
I know its what all the "cool" celebrities are into but what is it... Besides a "religion or cult"
I was watching 20/20 tonight and they claimed to bottle water which cures cancer.
I just don't know what they believe anyone know anything about it? Anyone study it?

I have no clue. Only thing I know is that they wear those red bracelets, which I could probably make out of thread (they cost $20)

Re: What the heck is all this Kabbalah Stuff.
They said early in the program that the only people the used to be able to study kabbaalah were jewish men, over 40 who have dedicated their entire life to religion. The experts said that their is a difference between real kabbalah and the kabbalah that all the celebrites pratice. They said that the red string which they kabbalah center sells for $26, and states that it has been part of the religion, has never been found in any books, and previous to the Bergs(the ones that run the centers) their is no history of the string.
Also an intersting note, the bottle water wich they claim has healing power, due to prayers being said on it, they (bergs) stated that the university of rhode island did a study and found that prayer water had different molecular properties then regular water. the reporter for 20/20 said he called university of rhode island and they said they never heard of such a study, and no other university has ever done and type of testing of water that was prayed over. I think the best line though for this entire segment was when berg says they did the study, and john staslle(reporter) goes to you really believe that you can change the molecular level of water? to which berg replies I know nothing, I am not that smart this is what was document in the study by the university of rhode island. Meanwhile no study was ever done.

Re: What the heck is all this Kabbalah Stuff.
I don't know much about kabbalah, aside from it being the study of jewish mysticism, studied by scholars. The town of Tzfat in Israel is the center of traditional Kabbalah study. This whole celebrity Kabbalah thing is very different, though.
In regard to the red string, when I was in Israel and visited the Western Wall, poor people sold them for $1. Everyone in my group wore them the whole time we were there, and even after we got home, as it was supposed to be good luck or something. I was never told it had anything to do with kabbalah, and I don't really believe that it does.

Re: What the heck is all this Kabbalah Stuff.
The celebrity "kabbalah" craze is honestly so removed from ACTUAL kabbalah. It's like several years ago those "buddha beads" were popular (you know, red for love, gold for fortunre, whatever), they're such a commericalized and distorted representation of buddhism that it's actually ridiculous
