yea, by 11pm-12M they'll have a good idea of who will win. All polls close by 11PM ET (with the exception of Alaska). Even if the West Coast is tallied, they will be able to make an extremely educated guess based off the electorial votes from those states.

it may take longer....
virginia isnt allowing military absentee balllots to be counted and mccain has filed a law suit.
also, the news is reporting that it will take 10 days to process all those preliminary ballots.
we might not know for a long while....

I was told that CBS news is planning to call it if the electoral votes are reached before the West Coast even comes (if they are not necessary).

MSNBC has a neat map that updates regularly. Obviously it's very early, but it's fun to watch as the results from the precincts roll in. Indiana and Kentucky closed at 6 pm, and more states will be closing at 7.

If Obama wins by a margin greater than 13 (VA's electoral count) it doesn't matter if we count or don't count those military votes...
