What to do?
So I feel my son has issues my ped ignores my worries and tells me he is young bla bla what is my next step?
Anyone have any dev ped referrals I'm in queens but willing to go to Nassau!
I just need someone else to listen to me he is 22 mths and he shows different behaviors then his twin sister.

Re: What to do?
My ped was the same and I have heard similar from other parents.
I believe at that age you can make a referral yourself for him to be evaluated.
DS was a little older when he was referred so it was through the school district.....I think it's a different process when they are younger.
Ladies?

Re: What to do?
A developmental Ped is a good place to start, but I would also call early intervention. It's free and they will evaluate all areas of development via an educational eval and will evaluate any specific areas of concern you have (OT, PT, Speech, Behavior/Psych). They can also provide parent training to give you strategies to promote skill development at home.

It will likely take you approximately 6 months to get a dev. ped. appointment. In the meantime call up Nassau County EI and ask for an evaluation. My pediatrician ignored my concerns for several months before I decided to follow my gut and take matters into my own hands (my gut was right).

Agree! I made an appointment with a dev. Ped in July and didn't see them till November. In the mean time I got DS evaluated and he qualified for OT and PT. He is in a special pre-school. Always go with your gut. I always new something was off with my DS. Everyone including Ped and family members didn't see a problem. I had him evaluated when he was 2 and he didn't qualify for anything. Finally after his teacher from his 3 year old class voiced her concerns I got him evaluated again and was so right about everything. I knew from when he was 6 months old something wasn't right.

Re: What to do?
Go with your gut and call EI. I am a professional in the field and the most common complaint i hear from parents is the ped telling them to wait.

Re: What to do?
You are doing the right thing by going to developmental pediatrician. It's nice to hear nothing's wrong but get that from a developmental ped as well
