What To Do; Trying Again...

Hi Ladies,

I haven't been on here in a little while, but just a quick reminder, I had 2 very early m/c's and it was found that the problem was most likely low progesterone and hormonal imbalance that was tested and corrected on Crinone. I am also getting acupuncture on a weekly basis to improve my blood flow (I have "cold blood").

I got the green light from both my RE and my acupuncturist last month. So each time the hubby and I try, I have to take Crinone 2x/day 2 days after ovulation, and stop if I get a negative test.

This cycle was our first one trying, I had such strong preg symptoms and such high temps, I really thought we conceived. I had the side pinches, swollen/sensitive boobs, tired... the whole shebang.

But the last 2 mornings (period would be due today) my temp really dropped.. I took a test yesterday and it was neg and with the big drop in temp I didn't even bother testing today. Plus all my symptoms are gone. Which isnt' a bad thing that we didn't conceive this month because I am on antibiotics for a bladder infection AND I have a stomach problem right now b/c something I ate didn't agree with me. So, maybe it wasn't meant to be this month.

ANYWAYS, (!)... here's my question that I already emailed my RE about: should I continue trying on my own and taking the crinone (I just feel like its a lot of progesterone that's unnecessary in my body for long periods of time) or, if I should go to the office for stimulation like my RE suggested a while ago; which I'm guessing means something like clomid? My friend was on clomid for 1 month and it helper her conceive right away. I'm off right now for the summer (I"m a teacher) so its a good time for me to get pregnant, I'm nice and relaxed, I'll have time to go into the office for monitoring, etc... and I'm also worried about if I have to take this crinone for many more months to come if we dont' conceive right away? So, I'm unsure of what to do.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Re: What To Do; Trying Again...

I don't have any experience with crinone or low progesterone. However, my DD was conceived my first month using clomid and with an IUI, after 13 months of TTC on our own with no known IF issues. I really had a hard time taking that step to seek out fertility help bc part of me really wanted an answer as to why it wasn't happening for us. Plus, I had regular cycles and was already ovulating on my own. DH had a normal sample. We were both healthy so why was it taking so long? We still don't know. However, I just got pregnant on my own this past month after one month of "not being careful". and although it sadly ended in MC at 5 weeks, I am trying to focus on the fact that I got pregnant on my own.

That all being said, I would suggest to you that you go with the RE and let him lead you. It sounds to me like you don't have many reservations against clomid or any sort of "help". And if you can get that much closer to a BFP than go for it. I look back now and have no regrets whatsoever that I went with what my RE suggested. And now that you are off for the summer and have the time to do it, I can't see any really good reason not to.

Sorry I can't offer more help than that. Sorry about your losses. I only had one, and even though it was super early, it hurt like hell (emotionally) and I never want to feel like that again. So I can only imagine............

Best of luck to you Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thanks for your words.
My RE actually advised trying a few months on our own first.
So, that's our plan!

progesterone like crinone only lasts in your body for less than 24 hours (which is why you have to take it everyday - and sometimes more than once a day). so you really shouldnt be concerned with take it multiple cycles. most REs give it prophylactically anyway, there is 0 risk of taking it - it can only help, not hurt. just remember thogugh all of your "symptoms" are caused by the rise in PROGESTERONE not HCG. so you will have all the same pregnancy symptoms from crinone that you would get from actually being pregnant - since most of the early symptoms can be attributed to progesterone rising to support pregnancy and not necessarily HCG which will kick in symptoms slightly later when it doubles to significant amounts.

as far as clomid goes, thats your personal choice. many people get pregnant from it and many dont. IMO if you already know that you ovulate on your own consistently at the same time of your cycle every month, then theres not that much reason to take clomid. if you have erratic anovulatory cycles then it might be worth it although i would ask for femara since its similarly effective for ovulation induction with less side effects than clomid.

good luck!

Thank you so much for this informative answer! So I shouldn't feel bad about putting the extra progesterone in my body. As for clomid, it is unnecessary for me and my RE wants me to try on my own for a few months first.
Thanks again!
