What to expect from a doctor?
I am going for my first dr. appointment in a week. I was wondering about something: If I should have some kind of problem in the middle of the night, such as bleeding (Heaven Forbid!), can I expect my doctor to meet me at the emergency room? Or is that unreasonable?
I am just so afraid of emergency rooms b/c i have had some bad experiences and I would hate to see a doctor that I don't know.
TIA

Re: What to expect from a doctor?
I go to a large practice, so if I needed to be seen at the hospital, there is a doctor on call from the practice...I liked that aspect of a large practiced.
I know that some practices work with other practices for who is on-call at the hospital...if it was serious, your doctor probably would meet you at the hospital after their office hours, etc.

Re: What to expect from a doctor?
I think it really depends on what kind of practice you go to. I think if there is something really serious going on my Dr. would meet me at "her" hospital but I don't think she would come all the way to PA to see me in the ER. XOXOXO BOTB

Re: What to expect from a doctor?
I would say that no, your doctor would probably not meet you at the hospital. He/she would be in communication with the doctor on in L&D that night, and if the L&D doctor thought it was necessary for your dr. to come in, only then would you see your dr. Two weeks ago when I was in L&D for contractions, this is what happened to me. And if you go to a practice with more than one doctor - it will be whichever of those doctors is on call that night.
