What to send for a death in the family?
My DHs biz partners BIL passed away and we wanted to send something to them.
Anything out of the oridinary or should we stick with fruit or flowers?

Food! Definitely food. Deli platters are great. It's a Jewish custom, but when we were in mourning (5 times in 4 years), it was great not to worry about what we are going to eat for dinner.

Re: What to send for a death in the family?
My FIL passed away this summer and people either sent flowers or food. We felt the food was better - we got trays of ziti, a ham, etc....
Flowers are nice - but we felt like the house had a funeral parlor feel to it and wound up throwing them out bc they were depressing us!
We also got a basket of a bunch of Italian stuff - pasta, olves, balsamic vingegar, etc...that was nice too.

Re: What to send for a death in the family?
I just sent a very nice basket that had muffins, cookies and brownies in it. It was from Mrs. Fields. It was something different rather than your basic fruit basket. HTH
