what to wear to a Communion?
DH and I are Jewish and have never been to a Communion before. Should DH wear a suit? a sports jacket? How dressy an occasion is this? This is for a good friend's daughter and they are having the party at a catering hall.

I think a suit for him & a dress for you, Communions are pretty formal.

I would say a suit for DS and either a dress/skirt or dress pants are fine too with some nice heels.

i think it more depends on where it is. Since you said its at a catering hall then yes I would say shirt and tie for dh and a dress or dressy pants and top for you.
some people have communion parties in their house or in a knights of columbus type place. for that I may dress differently

I think minimum shirts and tie for husband. You can get away with nice dress pants/capris and a nice top
Unless its a very fancy catering hall then I'd wear a suit, otherwise I don't see the need for,a suit

I disagree with suit. I've been to tons of these and only the immediate family gets that dressed up. My dh and two ds wear dress pants or khaki with a dress shirt. I usually wear black pants with a dressy top or now I'd wear a spring/summer dress.

I'd have to say khaki pants and button down for a guy. Nice pants and blouse or day dress for a woman. I don't think they're as fancy or as formal as a day wedding. At least none that I've been to.

We are Jewish too. My son nd husband went to one today.vmy husband wore slacks and a button down shirt. He said he was appropriately dressed.
I was told suits are worn by family only..

Most communions I go to are pretty informal. I saw a springy dress, skirt and nice blouse or nice pants and nice blouse are fine for you. No suit for DH...too formal...that is for the dad/grandpa's! I went to 2 yesterday - no one wore suits outside of those I mentioned. Dress pants and a button down or if you want a sports jacket with it. I don't think a tie is necessary at all.

If at a catering hall (like a wedding place) my DH would wear nice pants with a button down or sweater and I would wear a casual dress or nice pants. If at a VFW type place definitely not a dress and DH would be even more casual.

Only parents, grandparents, godparents typically really get dressed up.
All other guests it's really entirely up to the family vibe and where the party is held after. Some where nice dresses, or skirt/blouse and men wear khaki's and a nice sweater or polo/button down shirt. Some wear jeans and polos or a blouse, etc. The only time everyone got dressed up was when they were going to Russo's for the "reception."
