Cut it down yourself.

The "Mythbusters" did a Christmas episode last week, where they tested out several methods of keeping the cut tree green and holding onto its needles.

Apparently, tons of hairspray worked the best. Of course, if you do this, the tree will probably ignite like a roman candle if you breathe too close to it!

Regular soda seemed to help, but I can't find the details of the episode to give you their findings.... Chat Icon

Lot's and lot's of water. The key is to make sure they cut the bottom when you buy the tree and then put it right into hot water when you get it home. If it sits around the sap seals the bottom up again and it won't "drink" any water.
