What type of preschool and why?
I'm looking at the different "models" of preschool and I am really having a hard time deciding where to even begin. I know it's just preschool but I want Miranda to be happy there when the time comes. I have two choices really close to home. Montessori and another that is a little more structured with learning (alphabet, math, handwriting). I am hoping to starting Miranda in the spring semester if possible but I may have to wait until 3 depending on potty training as most schools here require that. Anyway just looking for some insight and feedback on what moms chose and why or if you think it's preschool and no big deal.

I personally would go for the less structured one for pre-school but for pre-k I would definitely go w/ the more structured one because kindergarten requires a lot now. So when they're only 3 let them have some fun because after that its mostly work and less fun.

That's kind of why I like Montessori. It seems to be a mix. I don't want to move her around too much. I guess I'll just have to go and look and observe at some point.

Re: What type of preschool and why?
My best advice is to go and observe both pre-schools you are interested in. See what happens in a typical class and then you can figure out which type of environment your daughter's personality would fit best into. I think that it all depends on the child.
ETA: Obviously, this is my advice as a teacher, not as a btdt.

ITA! We are putting Grace into a Montessori school when the time comes. This is how I "teach" and parent her at home and it works for her.

Re: What type of preschool and why?
I have a few teachers in the family and they told me that unless we plan on keeping the kids in Montessori the whole time we may want to steer clear of it for preschool. They found that some of the kids had a hard time transitioning from that environment to public school.
I'm not saying they aren't good schools, just that it's different (which I'm sure you already knew).

Re: What type of preschool and why?
I am sending Jack to a Montessori-inspirired preschool this year. It uses the Montessori principals of self learning, etc, in a structured enviroment. I love his school...I want to go there!

Re: What type of preschool and why?
I used to teach creative movement classes at different preschools and I found the kids from the Montessori schools were not nearly as well behaved. They were a little less structured and had a harder time settling down and following directiions. This was just my experience. I thikn when the time comes to put Luca into preschool I will look for a more structured program.
