What Vaccines did your Ped give DC at 6 week visit?
Mine is giviing Polio and HIB and HEPB. I was surprised, b/c from what I've read, Polio is not a worry anymore and HEPB is only a problem when DC is exposed to an infected person.
HIB is, admittedly, still a concern.
I thought that Whooping cough (which is in the DTAP) was a bigger scare than Polio and HEPB and would have thought this would be more important to take care of right away than the other 2 for an infant. But my Dr gives the DTAP at 4 months (at that point DD will be in daycare already)
I thought the whole idea of not going anywhere public during the first 8 weeks, was b/c she wouldn't get her shots for the really contagious illnesses until 6 weeks. Maybe I'm not reading the right information, but from what I've been researching, the really contagious illnesses are Whooping Cough and HIB. Why would my Doc wait until 4 months for the DTAP (whooping cough)?
(Btw, I do understand that POLIO and HepB are important to vaccinate for to prevent epidemics and protect DC, and will get her vaccinated for these, just didn't understand why these would be the first ones.)

I agree. There are other shots IMO that your DC should have gotten first.

DS got an oral vaccine of Roto virus and the shots for HIB and HEPB.
Did anyone else's DC get the Rotovirus one?

At 6 weeks, DS got DTaP and Polio.
Not to hijack this thread, but I believe he got his first HepB at the hospital before discharge... I wish I inquired more about it at the time, it sounds like it may have been too early from what I'm reading?

Thanks for replying everyone. I agreed to give DD Hep B at birth and now wish I had looked into it more. Since then, I've read "the Vaccine Book" that goes over all the different diseases that are vaccinated against and how the vaccines are made etc. Its very interesting and alarming from both sides as to how devastating the illnesses are, but also, how we know so little about some of the ingredients that are in the vaccines themselves. T This is why I'm concerned that the first vaccines she is being given seem to be for the diseases she is least likely to be exposed to...
