What was recovery like from your planned c section?
I was able to stop taking the pain meds exactly one week after my c/s. I still had pain but it was much less than it was in the first week. In the first few days, as long as I kept up with the meds I was able to keep my pain manageable. On the third day I tried to go without the medicine and I was hurting so bad! If you try to walk a lot, even just back and forth in the hall outside your hospital room, its supposed to help w recovery. By about 3 weeks after surgery I felt much better.

Re: What was recovery like from your planned c section?
My second c section was a much easier recovery than my first emergency c section. For my second, I went into labor before my scheduled date and they did the c section then. The first 2 days are really tough. Even moving is hard because of the catheter for the first day, and then because of the IV and of course the pain. After that i was feeling a lot better and by the 5th day after the surgery I was only taking motrin every once in a while for the pain.
This was drastically different from my emergency c section where it took about 3 weeks for me to feel like myself again.

Re: What was recovery like from your planned c section?
honestly, not bad at all. The worst for me was the day after my c section, I had some gas pains, and shoulder pain that was related to the gas. It wasn't awfully painful, but definitely not comfortable. Once I passed gas, it was fine. I only felt the need to take motrin 1 x during my entire recovery. It wasn't that painful in general, and the second I was given the clear, I made sure to walk as much as possible. It definitely helps thing progress faster

Re: What was recovery like from your planned c section?
The days in the hospital were painful. I tried to walk as much as possible. I didn't need the rx painkillers too long after coming home, maybe a day or two after that, then Motrin did the trick. the worst part was bending down. My husband had to go right back to work, and I was able to handle everything pretty independently on my own once I was home.
Also, make sure you have enough high-rise panties. The low rise just rub against the incision.
Eta: whoops, just realized you asked about planned! Mine was emergency....

Re: What was recovery like from your planned c section?
I had 2 planned CS. Never had labor so I can't compare. But both mine were great. First one, once the took my it out ( 36 hours after CS) I never took pain meds stronger than motrin. I tried to walk the hospital a lot. And I sent baby to nursery every night to get a good sleep. Ds was born on the 20th and I came home on the 23rd.
Second CS had a little more pain. Would take pain meds at night to get some sleep. Had my husband fill the pain med script used for 2-3 days after coming home. I was pushing myself too much to do everything too fast after my CS. Once I slowed down, no more need for pain meds.

Mine was not planned and I was fine by the time I left the hospital and I never took anything more than Motrin.
I think you never know how you will feel.

Re: What was recovery like from your planned c section?
My first section wasn't emergency but wasn't planned & recovery was pretty simple. Second was planned but went into labor prior to date & recovery was again easier.
The key I think to both was the minute they allowed me up, I walked, even if it was 10 steps. I had both babies in NICU which forced me to move. I refused to take a wheelchair. I came home sore but nothing that Motrin didn't help

I was good with the pain even in the hospital and didnt need much pain meds after 3 days. Def walk as much as you can cause that helps.

my worst pain after my first turned out to be the gas pain in my shoulder. i took pain meds once. after my second c section i was a little more sore and by the third day it wasn't so bad. second c section i took pain meds for 2 days maybe 3, but it was only the motrin. they say to walk around as soon as possible and it really does help.

Re: What was recovery like from your planned c section?
I know it's not what you're looking to hear but with both of my C-sections (both planned) the recovery was INTENSE. 24 hrs post C-section is the worst. Make sure you take every painkiller offered while in the hospital. Each day gets a little better but I was down and out for a while. It took some time to walk and get up comfortably and lie down in bed to sleep.

Re: What was recovery like from your planned c section?
For me the planned was NOT BAD at all. I had a crash c with DS1 and recovery was bad. I also hated the anesthesia. For DS2 the scheduled c was so much easier and calmer. Knew what was going on and the spinal was nothing. I was more afraid of the needle. The nurses were awesome and informative. Best advise I got from LIF... don't be a hero. Use your anesthesiologist for everything. If you feel a little sick let him/her know. I didn't want to get sick and I didn't. Was on just motrin by day 3 and it was fine. Was up walking around the next day.

Re: What was recovery like from your planned c section?
MUCH better than my first!
First was 30 hours of labor then C. Had a very rough recovery. Walked hunch-backed for 2+ weeks. Slept on the couch for over a month because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get up from bed without help, etc. ETA: My OB had me do laps around the nurses station. I was in so much pain. It was awful and DH had to come with me and practically hold me up. To do 1 lap was a ton of effort.
Second was repeat but I ended up delivering 9 days before because I had pubic symphysis. I woke up that morning and couldn't walk. I had to hold the walls of my house to get around. Called my OB and he had me go to L&D. They admitted me and made the call to deliver that afternoon.
Aside from the residual pain from the pubic symphysis, my recovery was a dream. I was doing nurses station laps by myself, pushing DD in her bassinet, like 5 laps at a time. I had DD on 9/7, released on 9/10 and was walking around a street fair on 9/20 with no problems at all. I was sleeping in my own bed within a week.

Not bad just take it easy. Take colace and gas x after the surgery. Also take the pain killers on schedule

Re: What was recovery like from your planned c section?
Much better recovery!
my first one i was induced, went through labor, vomitted, epidural wore off- the works LOL wound up with a c section
recovery was rough- i think it took me a week before i could shuffle around (maybe not remembering so accurately, but it was rough)
this time i had a scheduled c section and by the second day, i insisted on them removing catheter, and unhooking me from all IVs and stuff. I didnt take any percocet, just motrin (stronger doses, obviously). I was walking around the hallway for almost two hours two days later.
good luck to you- im sure youll be fine

Not too bad! The hardest thing was getting in and out of bed.

Mine wasn't bad in the hospital, though I did have one day where I was in serious pain. Afterwards, my incision ended up splitting open and I ended up on home health care for a month!!
