What week was your first internal?
I was 38 weeks on sunday, and had my OB check yesterday. Last week he said he would do an internal, and then at appointment he said not necessary.. This is my second baby I would have thought he would at least want to know if im dilated.. Im soo confused. Plus i was a bit mad b/c i went through all that trouble of shaving.. which is a pain in the Azzz with this belly..

Re: What week was your first internal?
I had mine at the 38 week appt. but they really aren't neccessary unless you have some bleeding or a lot of cramping. I will have another tomorrow but I am sure I won't find out anything new.

Okay that makes sense. He did ask if i felt anything new... and just a little cramping but nothing i would call major. Thanks!

Re: What week was your first internal?
a lot of Drs are starting to not check for dilation and effacement before you start labor. This is actually a new trend. There is no correlation between how dilated you are and when you will go so there is really no reason to check. Also, everytime you have an internal exam you increase your chance of infection. So why check for somethign that is useless info and risk an infection.....

Re: What week was your first internal?
I had my first at 37 weeks. I don't think knowing how not dilated I am has made it any easier.

Yeah but its curiosity that will drive you nuts. If you aren't dilated you are going to freak and think the baby isn't coming anytime soon when you could easily go into labor 2 hours later. Or you could be 3 CM dilaed for 3 weeks and go late!!!
