What will she need to know for K??
My daughter did not get into public pre-K in any of our choices bc our area is so overcrowded. She's in a private 4s program now, but it is not CC based and she goes 3 morning a week. I'm beginning to stress about her not being prepared for the "new kindergarten" (ie: CC based). What are some things she should know before K?
TIA!!

Take a look at the standards and ask at the Pre-K what their curriculum looks like. No matter what try to instill a love of reading. Try to read with your child daily and find an author they really enjoy (Mo Willems is always a favorite) where the characters interact with the reader/listener. Point at the illustrations and talk about what they see, point to the words as you read them. Let them hold the book and turn the pages as you read. Let them "read" by telling what they think is the story as they turn the pages. All of these things are basic skills they need to learn before knowing a sound.
A lot of kids come into K without Pre-K or going to a private Pre-K and do just find. Just having that social interaction is so important.

Teach her to cut with scissors, use a glue stick, complete a jigsaw puzzle, get a preschool handwriting program like Handwriting Without Tears to use at home, make sure she uses a proper grasp on a crayon, introduces a golf pencil. Practice coloring with in the lines, make sure she can listen, attend and follow directions. Read Read Read to her! Teach her the alphabet and that every letter makes a sound ("A " Apple "aaaa" etc...). Make sure she knows that there are upper and lower case letters. She also needs to put on/take off her cost and zip it up. Give her background knowledge, build her vocabulary.
All she really needs is good social skills, self-care skills, good behavior and a desire to learn but the above mentioned skills will help her tremendously.
