What would YOU choose? Ripping your kid out of bed 2 hours early or....
being 10 minutes late for work? Is it ridiculous that I cannot figure out which is the right choice? Here's the situation. JT works a rotating schedule that is from 7pm-7am. 2 days a week, I have to take Ava out of bed at 6:30am (she usually gets up 8:30-9am), take her to work with me and hand her off to JT at my school so he can take her right back home again. She is off for the rest of the day since she doesn't nap. Yesterday was hell on earth because she was so tired. Sometimes, I will have JT come here and I will let her sleep, but that causes me to be about 10 minutes late for work. It wouldn't be a big deal (since I don't actually teach until about 10am), except I just don't think my boss will understand if 2 days a week I'm a little late for the sake of my child. So, today, I just couldn't bare to wake her since she was so tired last night, so I'm risking being late. Ugg. I hate being late for work, but I hate ripping her out of bed early. I hate having to choose between Ava and my job.

If I were in your situation I would speak to my boss with the hopes that he/she would understand. IMO I don't think being late 10 mins 2x's per weeks is a big deal. Maybe you can arrive 10 mins early on 2 other days to make up the time.

I agree, 10 minutes late. See if you can stay 10 minutes after, etc...

Rachel, why can't you tell your boss what is going on and ask if it's okay? Maybe give back 10 minutes of your lunch or stay late on those days. Since it doesn't interfere with any student responsibilities, I would ask and see what happens.

I'm late for work all the time, so I definitely vote for be 10 minutes late. I'd talk to your boss and explain it as there is really no way around it, two days a week you will need to be 10 minutes late, would he be OK with that. Then if he's not, say you'll have to make arrangements then to be on time.
Good luck!

I had to do that talk as well. It went well. Instead of working 8-4 I work 8-415. Its worth it to me.

ITA!
Especially since I know Ava has had some sleeping issues in the past. I would think the rule "never wake a sleeping child" really applies with her.

I agree with the others. Talk to your boss about coming in a little late 2x a week. 10 minutes is not asking for much at all.

Being late is not even an option for me...as Im responsible for opening the school...
I would change our schedule, and he would just HAVE to get up earlier...
I would never just "be late" but if you were able to speak with your boss and change your hours, I would probably have that talk...

Is it possible to put her in her car seat still asleep??? Bring her in her pjs??
I know my principal probably would not be understanding about it, like Marissa said I would have to make the necessary adjustments to the schedule. The good thing is that Ava might be so tired by the end of the day that she can't even fight her sleep anymore.

Ugh..I hate that choice & have had to make it all too many times.
I think it's worth a shot to ask about the 10 minutes late thing - as long as it's 10 minutes.
It's an accomodation that he'd have to make for you & if making up the time isn't going to cause a conflict with other co-workers, you should ask. I know you're in a school - is there some sort of teacher - student ratio that needs to be met & that's why you need to be there?
There are plenty of people that waste more than 10 minutes a day on the job so I'd say it's not too big of a deal depending on the reasons he needs you there. If he can't, then you have the alternative of putting her in pjs in the car & switch cars with DH so you don't have to even take her out - or you can enlist help from the ghostly woman & ask her to pretend to be you

I would def talk to someone at work and see if there was something you could do. Arrive a little later.. maybe stay a little later if need be?
If Kaila was being thrown off her schedule it would drive me nuts.. good luck!
