What would you do?

I currently work at a job that pays OK money and I do home therapy at night. DH and I are struggling. I work 5 minutes from my house and have benefits (i.e. days off, etc).

I was offered a job that pays almost 3xs per hour of what I am making now. I would do straight home therapy and supervision. In the beginning the hours would be slow. It could take several months before I would have a steady caseload. This job is over an hour each way and no benefits (i.e. days off).

Which would you choose?

Re: What would you do?

I would choose the lower-paying job. Having a shorter commute and having days off are too important to me.

Good luck with your decision!!!

I agree with this. I had a VERY long commute for a year and it was very hard. I used to call my dh on the way home crying because either I was in traffic and had to use the bathroom ...... or I was falling asleep! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Im surprised so many people said the lower paying job.

She said they are struggling financially.

I would take the higher paying job. My job is 50 minutes away and it isnt that bad. Would it be nicer to be 5 minutes away, yes,. Would I love to have days off, yes. But don't you need the money?

Re: What would you do?

Honestly, there would have to be a lot of other factors involved for me. I would question how stable this agency is. In the last year I have seen 2 or 3 agencies who do home cases that have closed due to low rates/not getting cases. In addition, I would need some sort of a salary. IF it takes you a while to build your caseload, is it that way at the beginning of every year??? Etc. The commute doesn't bother me - I like to drive. I drive about 1/2 hour for work with DS, come home and then go out and do home cases that are sometimes a 1/2 hour away so I am in the car a lot!

I agree with this. What are the conditions and job stability for this job? Could you see yourself staying there long-term? How drastically would your financial situation improve? Would it impact child care arrangements? I commute almost three hours total each day Chat Icon but financially and for job security reasons, I doubt I would leave any time soon, even for a closer job. Yes, a commute is AWFUL. But sometimes there are other options that really need to be considered... Good luck!

I agree. I have a job thats about 45 minutes there, an hour home. I don't have benefits, no vacation or sick days. however, I didn't bother looking for another job because I love my school and the money is good.
